How I Arrived At NHS:  I was surrendered by my family because they thought I would do best in a household with older children.
 
Note from an NHS Volunteer: We had Emma with us for a few days. Emma is a sweet, loving dog who enjoys spending time with the family. She is game for whatever we were doing, inside or out. She rides in vehicles well. She has an excellent nose! She is also protective of the family and when she heard our chickens, let out a deep bark sounding like a 100 pound watchdog (though she is a petite girl). She is agile.

Emma is very friendly and enjoyed spending time with my older kids. The kids’ bedroom is downstairs and she learned to go down the stairs so she could be with them. She likes other dogs but my dog does not! Emma did not fight but she kept trying to make friends.

Emma made very little noise other than one or two times when she let out a deep bark. She knows how to "kennel up", made no noise in it and knew other commands as well such as down (she tried to get on sofa), sit, no, here and go potty. She needs some work on these but did respond when firmly and consistently given. She does not steal food or counter surf. She does not beg at the table.

Emma will go potty when you take her out and tell her. She will stand at the door briefly when she has to go but she does not make a sound telling you she is there. So you need to potty her consistently and be aware of this.

Also, Emma played well with other dogs and cats and LOVES to play with a ball. She needs some work on basic commands, like “sit” and “come” but has an overall playful disposition!

Good With Kids: Emma should go to a home with children that are 12+
Good With Cats: I went on a field trip to a volunteer's house and did fine with their cat.
Good With Dogs: I lived with another dog and did well with him.
 
All the dogs at Northwoods Humane Society have had a basic exam by a tech.  They have been tested for Heartworm (if over 6 months of age), had at least their first distemper combo vaccination (2nd if here longer), dewormed with a general dewormer, and had a flea and tick treatment applied if applicable. All the dogs will be spayed or neutered before they are adopted to their new permanent homes.  Dog adoption fees range from $125 to $355 + tax; Puppy adoption fees range from $285 to $455 + tax.
