Meet Tommy
Pardon the cage photos - they were taken at our adoption events at Petco.
Meet Tommy! He is a wonderful dollfaced Himalayan who was abandoned and brought to our vet's office for care. Tommy is a great cat - outgoing, playful, active, alert and loving. Tommy loves everyone. He loves it when you talk to him. He will beg for pets by rolling over and looking at you with those big blue eyes that no one can resist. He is so playful.
He loves to run around the house and check things out. He's very fast and confident. He should not live in a home with dogs who might mistake his fast running for prey. Tommy is very confident, and trusting.
Tommy came to us with diarrhea, which is the likely reason he was abandoned. At first we thought it would stabilize after he got used to a consistent food, but it didn't. We had him tested for parasites, and he was negative. Then he was put on a special prescription diet for gastro problems and probiotics for 6 weeks, but it didn't help. In fact, we finally took Tommy off the prescription diet because his diarrhea had become so runny, it seemed like he was having trouble containing himself.
We took Tommy off the prescription diet and probiotics, and put him on a limited ingredient diet, which got rid of his diarrhea in 3 days! It has never returned. This is indicative of a food allergy. Tommy cannot eat chicken, fish or beef. At this time, he is eating a raw diet of Instinct lamb. He also can eat Instinct canned lamb. We haven't experimented with other foods. We're just happy that this is working for Tommy, but it also means that Tommy's adopter will need to adhere to a high quality limited ingredient diet.
