Meet KASAN

Kasan is a Shihtzu Poodle x male, neutered, sweet, a little shy but very good dog. Gets along with other small dogs and okay with kids, here, but lived in a home without any small kids. Shihtzus are by nature a dog that has to warm up to the new owner, old owner traveled extensively and when they went out of town the dog stayed in the back yard fed by neighbors this is not a good way to socialize the dog but the dog is young may not even be a year old but we set his age at one year. We suggest you get a crate as large as possible and crate for various periods such as up to 3 hours and over night then take dog outside walking with him saying 'go potty' the dog will learn but you must stick with itinarery of spending time in crate going outside urging him to go potty you can put down puddle pads in the meantime all of this works to promote dog 'going potty' outside when being let out of crate the crate should be his safe place never used for punishment. This dog has had some experience in a crate so this is the time to train him to stay in one for intervals of time and over night. Never punish for mistakes of mother nature and remember he was put outside for the last six months so may have forgotten parts of his early house breaking. Sometimes people want to exchange for house breaking flaws and there are many good reasons we will exchange a dog but failure to be able to house break isn't one of them in this case the dog is young has never been punished for failure to learn but we also will always take a dog back that does not work out. He is eating Pedigree adult Pedigree small kibble twice a day. Put dollop of moist on top, Dogs should not lose weight be sure to keep a weight diary also you have a 90 day health guarantee through the kennel. Dog should wear a harness not a collar. Keep ears clean, take small plastic water bottle fill with clean water, put dash of white vinegar shake with cotton ball swab earts clean. Cost of adoption is $125.00 cash or card, no checks has all shots a microchip and one year rabies, kennel cough etc. Permanent parvo distemper shots. Notice From here on the text is a default meaning it is identical for all dogs.  This saves us time in typing. At our agency all dogs go out spayed or neutered, tested for heart  worm or ehrlicia providing the dog is over a year old. If a dog falls into the appropriate age group, has been given kennel cough shot, is wormed for most common worms, has received a rabies shot if old enough which is 4 months and  is good for a year, has been given 1 parvo, distemper shot if over a year old or 3 series given 3 weeks apart( if under a year old.)  Dogs getting  the 1 shot over a year old or 3 shots in a series  under a year old are considered by us to be immune to parvo and distemper for life. The statistics say only one out of 580 dogs who got all 3 parvo-distemper shots as a series and are under one year old only one out of this number will fail to be immune.  So this is a good law of average it means we as care takers had to give the correct shots on time and without fail.  For this reason our puppies are put out for adoption at an older age than some agencies put their puppies up for adoption. For every missed shot as a small puppy, the dog loses immunity chances and can contract the disease.  These diseases are heinous so every attempt at immumity should be made to make sure a dog does not get these diseases. Parvo and distemper are mainly diseases of puppies and once they have had the 3 shot series or one shot if older than a year when we get them, it would be rare for the dog to get these diseases and as they age they set up their  own immune system and with the shots given and age of being older it would be rare for a dog to come down with either disease.  Do not give your dog follow up boosters against parvo distemper as they age it can cause more problems than it can help.  Some veterinarins push for these boosters but the manufacturers and scientists who study this say don't continue to give these boosters after the puppy shots given early in life or one shot if you don't know what shots the puppy had which comes to y ou at a year or more.  Yearly vaccinations exposes them to cancer as stated in national publications.Veterinarians already know rabies vaccination is effective for 7 years but the law insists they get it as a puppy then the second shot if owner can prove they've had a shot that is not expired qualifies for a 3 year shot.  Then the dog should continue to get shots every three years this may not please some veterinarians but vaccinations should not be given any more often but you must qualify your pet and get the rabies shot first as a puppy then a second shot in a year then with identification and without  the shot being past due, qualifies a dog for a 3 year certificate.  It is interesting to know the 3 year vaccination is identical to the one year but carries a different sticker on the side.  You must obey the law.  Rabies is not cruable in the victim and many people die because of exposure to wild animals it is essential you follow the law and keep your paper work. Here dogs  The dogs  have been given  examination by a DVM who looks at teeth, hair, eyes, body and ears. When a person adopts from us they are getting over $200 in veterinary services for the price of the dog which ranges from $100 to $125.  If a person considers what would ordinarily go into the medical welfare of the dog, these figures are  very reasonable for an adoption where all these services are already done.   Many local vets charge around $100 for a spay or neuter, alone plus other services we routinely furnish including the microchip, kennel cough shot, worming, tick and flea treatment etc. . Dog has been healthy here and has not been on any medications. (unless stated) We urge people to get a prescription  for heart worm prevention from their own vet and since we will have tested the dog within the past 3 months this is current enough a veterinarian should not want to do the test again if they insist on this find another vet. A vet should realize that there is not a satisfactor test for dogs until they are over a year old but the dog benefits from taking Heart Guard Plus which is effective against internal worms of all types and if you are to be a satisfactory owner you will be sure the dog gets these chews  .    As far as ticks and fleas, use Armor Dog available at Walmart and Walgreens and other stores and is identical to what vets sell. The idea is not to cut the vet out but to help people who do not  have funds to take better care of their pet.   Heart worm is caused by the bite of an infected mosquito and the worm is thrust through the skin and into the body slowly making way to pulmonary area entering the heart where it grows into an adult worm 7 inches long resembling limp spaghetti. It then reproduces to form small worms which are picked up by uninfected mosquitoes and the cycle repeats. Normally dogs which are under a year old are too young to have symptoms of heart worm due to a time cycle. We test all dogs over a year old unless.   It is so simple to protect your dog and we encourage you to use Heart Guard Plus, be sure your product carries the word plus to take care of both heart worms and intestinal worms. Intestinal worms are picked up by dogs through contamination or through pads on feet and carried to the intestines. There is nothing so cunning as a parasite. With puppies we find almost all puppies are born with worms because the worm has been transmitted to the mother dog one way or another and hides out as a cyst. When the mother is ready to deliver the cyst senses there is action in the milk bar and move there ready to transmit to the puppies as they nurse. Because worms are everywhere and we live so close to our pets, sharing cars, beds, houses with them, we want our family safe and they will be kept safe if they worm their pets monthly with Heart Guard Plus or another good product. Dogs can pick up worms walking through a bark park, in a veterinary waiting room and a trip to the back yard through transiting animals such as birds, cats, racoons, foxes, bats etc. Bats (and other wild animals) can cause rabies so your pet must be kept vaccinated. With Ehrlicia it is caused by a tick. Here, in El Paso,  there is no Lymes diseases or Rocky Mt Spotted Fever, these ticks just carry ehrlicia and  humans do not get these diseases. . Both heart worm infestation and ehrlicia manifest by a dog being listless, with heart worm an occasional cough, a poor coat condition and pale gums as blood is taken from them on both accounts. Once a dog has heart worm it is expensive to treat but to discard the pet is heartless without trying to save its life due to human  negligence. With Ehrlicia and heart worm the pet usually loses weight, does not thrive or play and is listless. Often the gums are pale.  Ehrlicia and Heart Worms can be treated. . . With our agency we rank dogs on house breaking on scale of 1-10 with 10 the highest but lesser ratings do not make a dog a poor learner or bad pet it means you will need to step up and work with the dog and use some tips to train the dog. We suggest buying a fold down crate from Petsbarn or Petsmart  and it is humane to cage dog for periods of 3 hours at a time and over night. When out of cage on bare floor watch dog for signs of losing interest in a toy, suddenly circling, sniffing floor or base board and take outside right then .Never yell at dog for mistakes of Mother Nature and always praise for good jobs well done. To a dog bathroom habits are natural and his mom praised him. Dogs taken away from mom too soon have a harder time learning to be house trained in a human house. Never say your dog's name in anger if you do then don't wonder why it does not eagerly come when called. You should cage your dog with an interesting toy like a Kong. The cage should be a safe place never used for punishment. If you come across a mess clean it up and forget about it and start over the dog will not recall what he or she did an hour ago. If you have a male dog you are crating put a skirt around the sides of the crate. Most dogs can be house broken within 6 weeks. When you accompany your dog to the back yard on a poop session, note anything mysterious in the stool such as blood, moving worms, raw hide etc. Blood in stool is not acceptable but can be from so many different sources but if  a dog eating and playing it most likely has a parasite easily cured. Other possible reasons are  IBS with mucus or something else, in elderly dogs it can be a tumor and a puppy it can be parvo. If dogs play and participate it probably isn't fatal and you can wait a day or two if necessary  to call the vet or to take in.Dogs with blood in the stool are not to be taken lightly and absolutely should see the vet.   Pet food with red dye often appears to be blood. It is scarey. Spayed dogs should not have a show of blood ever. When you adopt a pet from us we hope it is forever but we promise to make every effort to take it back if it doesn't work out or you have to move. Be sure to keep your paper work and call us. If you have a family member willing to take your dog notify us so we change the microchip owner and this number will follow you as long as pet lives and after. If you are having problems training your pet remember a pet is as smart as the owner and no dogs are born trained. We suggest you buy DVDs by Cesar Milan  Dogs under a year should eat 3x a day with a dollop of moist on top of food for flavor, dogs over a year, Pedigree small  Dog Chow. To alternate a food or change it is to have diarrhea for sure. When you adopt from us the dog has an ID tag and collar and Microchip tag (probably) and these should be left on the dog for identification. Think about your qualifications for a dog which should live out its life with you. Is it too big so it might be dangerous to your kids without meaning to be? Will you then give it up to be put down or hope for a person to take it off your hands? Too small the dog cannot escape the loving fingers of a baby or young child meaning no harm but able to cause plenty of damage to where the dog would bite out of being desperate. Is the breed too hairy? Does it want to play with the cat or eat it? Talk to your representative here.
