Date of birth: 2/2011

2/28/2015: Gia is a big, friendly, happy girl! She's an American Bulldog and Boxer mix. Sadly, Gia was severely neglected in her previous home. She was horribly malnourished and lived on a chain. She weighed 62 lbs when she arrived here, and our big girl is now weighing in at a healthy 95 lbs.

Gia loves people and is very affectionate. She’s also a wee bit of a handful— she's one strong girl! We’ve been working with her on not pulling when she’s on a walk, and she’s much improved but still need works. She’d benefit from more training. She absolutely loves treats and is food motivated. She knows "sit" and is eager to learn more... and get more treats! After her walk, she loves to hang out with the volunteers and just relax. She also likes children. She’s very sweet.

We don’t want to place Gia in a home with small children, only because she’s a bit rambunctious combined with her size. She also needs a home without other pets — she wants to be an only child and reap all the attention! To add to her repertoire, Gia can climb a 4 ft fence. Because our sweet girl is a bit of a handful, we'd prefer to place her with someone who has dog experience and can handle a large dog who's not good with other pets.

Gia is 3 years old and she's been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. She's had a rough life, yet she still loves people and that's pretty amazing. She even tolerated us putting reindeer antlers on her. She deserves a good home with lots of love and attention.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
