Lucy Border Collie & Labrador Retriever Mix Chilliwack, BC

Lucy is an approx 22 month old Border Collie x Lab x ??? Your guess is as good as ours!! She was returned to us after her family had a baby. This girl will need a very special, dog savvy home. Lucy deals with some fear issues and tends to be vocal when frightened. She came to us very fearful of strangers, but lately Lucy has learned that they aren't so bad at all! She has even taken to running up and greeting new people while on walks -- but we know that she does still have the tendency to be fearful and can revert back to that. She will "woof" at new people she is unsure of. Lucy also came to us with a bad habit of guarding her things like bones and yummy treats. Her foster mom has been working VERY hard on this with Lucy and she will now drop a bone and trade it for a treat, she is doing SO well with this and making great progress. We are so lucky that her foster mom is very savvy and Lucy is EXTREMELY bright! They decided to do clicker training and it is working so well, there's a theory that Lucy is now training her foster mom without her even knowing it. Lucy responds extremely poorly to correction based training techniques (if your idea of correcting is "pinning" please do not consider Lucy), but she flourishes with positive reinforcement and clicker training.

Lucy is a high energy dog and needs consistent exercise along with exercise for her brain. She LOVES thinking and puzzles. Because of this we think she would be awesome at noseworks or tracking sports. Now that her knees aren't bothering her, we think she'd love flyball or agility as well! She's such an enthusiastic girl who is up for anyhting!

Lucy loves other dogs and goes on hikes and walks many times a week with her fantastic foster mom who is also a dog walker. **Because of Lucy's tendency to resource guard her things from people and other dogs, we would like her to go to a home where she is the only dog.** She is currently living with a confident, dog savvy cat, but is quite exuberant and this may not be appreciated by all cats. Even though Lucy has done well with the kids she has met so far, we are not recommending her for a household that has kids.

At the end of the day Lucy is a huge lovable goofball who needs some help in the confidence building department. Lucy is so happy to see you at the end of the day, she'd love a home with time to devote to exercising and training her! And someone who understands she is a bit of a "project" but one that is so worth it to someone will to put time and love into her.
