Meet Sydney: Adopted!
SYDNEY IS IN A FOSTER HOME
Date of birth: 5/2013
12/3/2014: Sydney is a darling little Heeler mix pup. She is a year old and weighs about 35 lbs. Sydney gets along great with other dogs. Sadly, she was not socialized in her former home and so she is quite shy. It takes Sydney time to gain people's trust. The good news is that once she does trust someone, she is very sweet and adoring! BE SURE TO WATCH HER VIDEO!
Sydney has been living in a foster home since May and she's made a lot of progress. She lives with two other dogs in her home and that's been very helpful for her to be with friendly dogs. She's still quite shy, but she likes her foster mom and she lets her give her pets and attention and hold her. Sydney's met many people who've come to the house and is becoming more and more brave and allowing people to pet her and making new friends. She's also house trained and crate trained.
It will take more than one visit with Sydney before she's ready to go home with someone, and she'll need ongoing socialization in her new home. She'll need a home without kids. She loves other dogs and gains confidence from them, so she really needs to have another doggie brother or sister in her home. Prior to being in her foster home, Sydney shared a kennel at our shelter with Darla, a Pit Bull who is very people friendly, and it was really helpful for Sydney to have Darla to show her how to interact with people.
Sydney has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. She's had a rough start to her life, and needs someone special who will help her overcome her fear and give her the chance she deserves. She has made an amazing amount of progress in her foster home. If you're interested in meeting Sydney, please submit an online application and if she seems like she may be a good match for you we'll set up a time for you to meet her.
MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...
Please visit our web site at HSGKC.ORG for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.
> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!
> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.
> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
