Introducing Majestic Haggard! Meet this boy and you will be putty in his paw. He is quite the Southern Gent and knows how to work his way into your heart. Just ask the shelter employees. Haggard was close to being euthanized for no reason other than nobody was interested in such a big dog. Thanks to the employees at the shelter, they begged for a day or two. Sure enough, a southern volunteer we work with came across Haggard and reached out to Double Dog Rescue. It was love at first sight!

Haggard's handsome black mask frames his expressive face perfectly, while his fluffy, Fozzy Bear ears shows off his soft, plush fur. They are a beautiful toffee color with charcoal tips. Speaking of fur, he plume for a tail, so you can have a little (big) helper in the house to dust. He will always greet you happily, even if it includes getting down on his elbows with his rump in the air. This is when you can really see his personality come out.

Haggard loves to snuggle! In fact, he thinks he's a kitten! If you are sitting indian style on the floor, don't be surprised if he tries to make his way into your lap for a snuggle and a kiss. He's 200% people dog.

Haggard should be adopted by a person/family who is/are willing to train him. He needs a firm handler so he can respect who is alpha of the household. He is a very confident boy, and it will be important that he looks at *you* for direction. He should not make the rules. Saint Bernard's are guardians. He would be best placed into a home with another female dog or a young dog. Another alpha dog in the household will not work for Haggard. He needs to respect his family and learn his place in the house.

Adopting Haggard would be quite the investment. He will entertain you while love you. He will look at you adoringly, because he will know that you saved him. He's an appreciate boy who deserves to find his forever family and live happily ever after.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.). Often dogs require more than one dose of deworming, therefore the adopter will be responsible for following up with their vet.

NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
