Meet Gaia

Gaia is a Special adoption. Please read bio in full.

Gaia is a young pit mix (around 2 years old) who is very affectionate and loves people. She's got a lot of energy and would do well in an active home; she loves to play in the yard, loves the snow, and runs with the shelter's running team -- she's a fantastic running partner! She is a little bit too jumpy and mouthy for kids when she gets excited, so she needs an adult only home. She loves other dogs but she can play rough sometimes, so she'd need to live with other dogs who are ok with that. Gaia is an all-around great girl who will continue to blossom once she's out of the shelter and in a loving home of her own. Come meet her!

The SPCA of Westchester works hard to find permanent homes for our adoptable dogs. Families interested in dogs listed as “Special Adoptions” will work with our trainer to insure that the adoption is the correct placement for that dog. During this time, the dog’s bio will still appear on PetFinder, marked “Adoption Pending”. If another family is interested in that dog, they can fill out an adoption application and leave it for the trainer. In the event that the adoption does not work out, the next application received will be considered as the next potential candidate. The trainer will only work with one family at a time that she deems is a valid candidate for that adoption. Thank you for your understanding.

Please fill out an application if you'd like to jumpstart the adoption process. No appointment is necessary to come in and meet/adopt an animal unless noted differently above. Otherwise, you may come in anytime, no appointment needed to meet/adopt one of our animals! You may also fill out an application when you get here. Please note, we do NOT hold animals, nor do we accept deposits in advance. Even if you have discussed coming in to meet an animal or have an approved application with us, this does not necessarily guarantee you will get that particular puppy or dog as you must always meet the animal(s) you are interested in before being fully approved to adopt. Also note, even if approved to adopt from us, if you have a dog at home they MUST meet the dog(s) you are interested in adopting from here to ensure they get along before you can officially adopt. All Dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate) and come with a free 7 day Vet check from a participating Vet! Our hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday's 1pm-4pm. High Kill Shelter/Southern Rescues, both Puppies and Adults are $325, All Puppies are $325 and Local Stray Adults over 1 year of age are $175. Seniors and Lonely Hearts Club members are $65.
