Meet Fairway

Meet Fairway!  He was found as a stray on the fairway at a local golf course so that's how he got the name Fairway.  He is a handsome and extremely affectionate Boxer mix that's approximately 1 year old.  He weighs 44 pounds and has a beautiful brindle coat with 4 white paws.

What really makes Fairway special is his extraordinary love of people and how gentle he is.  Fairway has never met a person whom he didn't immediately make friends with.  This handsome boy isn't the type to jump on people or bark.  In fact, he almost never barks.  He walks well on a short leash, accepts a bath without freaking out, gets along well with other dogs, likes cats and seems to do well with kids.  He likes his stuffed toys and is house trained.  His favorite thing to do is go for rides on a golf cart.  He also loves to ride in a car.

He does not like to be left alone in the back yard and will dig out if he feels he has been abandoned.  Therefore, he will do best with a family, couple or individual who will spend a lot of time with him and not leave him alone for long periods of time.  A fenced yard is recommended.   Fairway's foster family has had no trouble with him digging, however, they haven't left him alone for long periods of time.

Fairway knows the sit and come command pretty well and is making good progress on the stay command.  He is a quick learner!  He learned not to get onto the furniture or bed with ONE correction and hasn't gotten on either since.  Fairway likes to sleep on a padded, soft doggie bed.  Fairway is fostered with another smaller dog and three cats.

Fairway has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, wormed, up to date on flea/tick/heartworm prevention and will be microchipped when adopted.

The foster parents of Fairway feel that he would make an excellent therapy dog after the required training and testing.  They know this because they already have a certified therapy dog.  He's that sweet!

If you are interested in adopting Fairway, please send us an application!  His adoption donation is $150 which includes his neuter, microchip, wormer, heart worm test, heart worm prevention, flea and tick prevention.

Dog Adoption Guidelines:

You must fill out an application to be considered for adoption. You can fill out an application at www.forthepets.org/adoption.htm or email to humanesociety@murray-ky.net for an application.

It is not a "first come" process; we try to "match" the dog with the family for a FOREVER home. We process all applications at once and take the dog off the site, place on adoption pending status until a decision is made. If a suitable home is not found, the dog returns to active status.

The dog adoption process can take about two weeks; we are a small group of volunteers who have full time jobs.

All of our dogs are indoor dogs with outdoor privileges, unless otherwise specified.

We do not fly or ship our dogs due to heat/cold concerns and safety issues. If you are willing to fly out AND fly the dog back in the cabin (size restrictions) with you, that would be considered.

If you apply to adopt a dog and are chosen, you must come to Murray, KY to pick up the dog and fill out the paperwork in person.

We do adopt out-of-state, but we do not transport.

We can't provide individual "meet and greet" sessions for each applicant. If chosen to adopt, you will have time to visit with the dog before signing any paperwork and will not be committed to adopt if you choose not to at that time.
