Meet Copper

Copper is a beautiful 35 lb 1-2 year old dog we believe is either a border collie, an australian shepherd or possibly a cross between the two. He was on the loose in Alabama and in danger of being shot when a rescue was alerted to his plight.
Copper is heartworm negative, up to date on all his shots, neutered, and microchipped. Copper is currently fostered in a home with an older large female dog and Buttercup, a younger med female. He and Buttercup play very well together. At adoption events, Copper seems to be agitated by some dogs that walk past him, we thought it was certain male dogs but we don't know if he has problems with all male dogs, just black dogs or what. He also has been fearful of men. He has been known to bolt and run and is not easy to catch.
He would do best in a home with a secure fenced in yard. He might be ok in an apartment if there is a secure area to walk/play in. He probably will do best where there is another COMPATIBLE dog that he can take his cues from.  Preference will be given to someone with prior breed experience; a strong record of excellent vet care provided to current or former pets is a must.  His adoption fee is $150.
AN ADOPTION FEE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PET. If you are interested in adopting, have a look at our adoption website, read the online adoption agreement, complete the online adoption application, and submit it. Unless otherwise specified above in the dog's bio, adoption fees are $150. If you are unable to adopt at this time, you may sponsor the care of this pet.

We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
