11/6 plea from Julia (Jack's foster mom): Has anyone considered Jack? I know he has some of the worst demodectic mange but he is growing in new hair (again). Jack does have some issues but I think his good points outweigh his issues. Jack is housebroken and never marks. He is very low key. He is good with all dogs and good with cats. He is quiet. He lets my Kali-Neko kitty knead in his belly all the time and it is not uncommon to see them sleeping together. He is squeezable. He is sweet. He loves to play with me and walk with me and stand on his rock outside. He is great about getting baths. He wipes his feet after he goes potty. He sleeps all night in his crate. He only has 2 bad indoor habits. One is he will hoard the toys (and has stolen the remote) and puts them in his doggie bed. Two is he scratches his butt under the coffee table sometimes. Of course he is taller than the table so he winds up picking the table up. Well, three bad habits. I have caught him standing on top of the coffee table a few times but not often. I love him dearly and would not mind him staying one bit....but he is scared of men. Strider is good with dogs but Jack will not let Strider walk him or anything. So when I am gone, it causes problems for Strider and it is not healthy for Jack to hold his business so long...but he will hold it until I walk in the door. When I did the long transport a few months ago Strider thought he could walk Jack but nope...Jack refused and I guess it freaked him out so bad his demodex flared up and he lost hair. So stressful situations can cause him to flare up. His other big issue is when we are walking if he hears a loud noise, or a car go down the road, or even if he hears loud birds, he will panic and drag me back to the front door. Right now I am so exhausted and sad and heartbroken over Emily and pups and everything else going on here...not to mention a terrible back ache from being on the floor caring for pups and Emily. If someone would consider my Jack it really would be a HUGE help for me personally. I wish I could say Jack was an absolutely perfect dog that would fly into an adopters home but I can't say that. I can say he has this sweetness inside him and he is a very special boy. He spent the first 18 months of his life huddled in a dog house with demodex so bad the sun would blister his skin and it would pop open. He hurt, he suffered, he hid from all human contact. Now he loves nothing better than to cuddle by me and get his belly rubbed or tug on a toy or just quietly snuggle next to me. Attaching a few pics we took today. Also attaching the pic I took the first day we got him.
And even though I would be sooo happy to see him rescued, I know I will cry when he leaves. I really do love him. Rats, I AM tired. I am crying right now!

Sponsored for rescue! Approx 22 months old 9/4/13.

9/11 update: Jack's skin is much improved, he still has some hair to grow but his was the worst demodex ever. He is a gentle and sweet boy but still very nervous and shy. He is walking well on a lead now but does get spooked. Horses going down the road, my husband opening the door, crickets jumping on his nose, cat leaping out bushes...a few things that spook him. He is much better with me than he is with my husband. He is very wary of him. Jack is young and had never really been touched much in his life. He had demodex since puppyhood. He is fine with other dogs, fine with the house cats and the outside cat as long as she isn't leaping out at him. He sleeps in his crate all night without issue. He lays up in his doggie bed a lot and interacts with the other dogs during the day. He is a hoarder and hoards the toys in his doggie bed. So he still needs work on his rehab but is a good boy with a good heart. Housebroken too. Good with dogs and cats.

8/18 update: Jack is not quite ready physically yet, but he is doing great. He was actually jumping around and playing last night. He has decided going out on a leash is not a bad thing at all. I used to have to carry him out the door, now he struts out. When he is done he trots right to the door. He still gets spooked, when horses went down the road it really freaked him out. He could not see them but he heard them. At bed time he walks over to his crate all on his own and gets in and waits for his bed time treat. So emotionally he is doing so much better. Physically he is much improved but still has a way to go. I think his next promeris treatment will really kick in his hair growth. He does have a few bad habits. He likes to scratch his butt under the coffee table. He is taller than the table so he actually picks it up off the floor when he does this. He likes to jump from the sofa onto the table and back again. Not sure why he does this but he enjoys it. He is a hoarder. His bed is full of toys, he had one of my slippers, and he takes the dish towel hanging off the stove and stashes it in the bed.

6/29 update: Jack does not look very beagle-y and I bet he weighs 45lbs but his mom was Jenny and she is a pure beagle. Jack is very shy. Will not really walk on a lead but is content to sit with you on one and let the breeze blow in his face. He is very very gentle, not an aggressive bone in him. He likes my bagle Betsy Loo but everyone like Betsy. His demodex is coming along nicely with only being on a grain free venison food, probiotics, and frontline spray every 3 weeks. I broke down and cleaned his ears today, we did them when he first came in and they were very yucky then. I noticed the other day they were starting to get yucky again. He was not happy with the cleaning but did not fight me about it. Afterwards we spent a good half hour just sitting on the hill talking and relaxing. We are only just able to start getting him out on a leash because his skin was sooo bad before the leash would have hurt his neck. So I am hopeful with a little time and daily leash stuff he will learn in no time. Jack is not yet altered, will be doing that soon. His skin was so bad that the vet would not do surgery on him but we all agree that as soon as I feel his belly skin is clear we have to get him neutered to cut out hormones that can contribute to his skin issue. Jack has only had HW test, neg, been dewormed and put on HW prevention. He only had his DHPP recently since we did not want to vax him in his condition. He will get rabies when altered.

6/25 update from foster: Had DHPP on 6/17. Even though he is much improved it was still difficult to get needle through his skin since it is so thickened from the demodex being so severe. Will be able to get him in for neuter soon.

6/7 update: Jack has grown in so much new hair. I took these yesterday. Remember he had that tuft in the middle of his head and some small patches and was mostly bare skin every where else? Look how good his face and head look now:) Under his neck is growing hair and that was all raw skin. He has soft new hair growing in on his chest. He really is doing very well. And is starting to enjoy being touched. I think his skin hurt too much to touch at first. He let me cut his nails without issue yesterday too.

5/22 update: Jack hates the camera!!! He honestly is a sweet boy with me. He always greets me when I go in with him, tail wags, loves treats. But with that camera in my hand I may as well have 3 heads! I cannot yet take him for walks since his neck is still so raw but he is growing some hair. I found a growth on his neck that we will get removed when he is neutered. His skin has to heal some more before we can neuter him. I will try again to get pics tomorrow since these are all pretty bad. I took a few dozen and these are the best out of those so you can imagine what the rest of them look like!

5/15 update: Jack is doing quite well here and he was more withdrawn than Bridget. Jack hid in the dog house for a few days after coming here but now he is all tail wags and jumping up on the gate when he sees me coming.

5/12 update: Jack is now coming out the dog house and wagging when he sees me out in the yard. His skin is still really bad but not nearly so raw looking. I'm sure with the anitibiotics and probiotics and good grain free food, he is feeling a world better.

Bio: Owner surrendered beagle mom and her 4 adult offspring due to neighbor threatening to harm/shoot. All lived outdoors but thankfully are heartworm negative.
All loaded with ticks. Sweet dogs but Jack is not very social. Scared to death.
