MY AGE:Approx. 2yr WEIGHT: 28lbs, 16" to shoulder. WHERE I AM FROM: AL MY STORY:

Nate is a beautiful, friendly, energetic boy that arrived several months ago. His foster mom and dad have worked with him and have taken him to obedience class. He has made great strides in learning doggie manners.

In the house he is now very well adjusted, as it is possible to 'park' him. So he sits and waits when the food preparation is in process, he sits and waits when the door opens. He can't keep his excitement when guests are coming, but it is hard to sit and wait when the rest of the doggy gang gets so excited. He enjoys a nice round of belly rubs and he became quite a cuddle boy, enjoying all the attention. He matured a lot over the time he spent in our house, and will be a wonderful companion for an active outdoors person.

Nate is very, very smart. Training him is easy, and he is very willing to learn. Of course this comes with a caveat: you need to establish yourself as the pack leader. Also, if given the opportunity he jumps in to fill the role of the leader of the dog pack.

He requires a person who is willing to work with him and give him a job, who is willing to set limits and hold these limits with consistency. He needs a person who helps him to lengthen his attention span and patience. As he is so eager to please, he is fun to train with positive reinforcement. As he is very excitable, there is no rough play in our house, or any harsh training.

Nate is 100% housebroken, and the first dog in my foster career that never had an accident in our house. So he has the run of the house and sleeps in front of my bed at night. He loves to ride in a car, and he gets along with the cats (which is really astonishing in my book). In relation to other dogs he is a rough player. Seeing him with my sister-in-law’s young lab, they had a lot of fun chasing each other in the back yard playing hard. My dogs are all older and smaller, so they don’t really care for his eager play style, so he and the rest of the gang are separated in the house when my husband and I are not at home.

Nate accompanies his foster dad cross country skiing, and has a wonderful time. In the back country Nate was allowed to go without leash, and he never abused the freedom. Of course the deep snow is a lot of work, doing 10 miles is not a small feat, so Nate was a tired and happy puppy dog at the end of those days.

Nate is most likely a mix between a Field bred English Cocker Spaniel and a Border Collie. One is a prey driven, flushing and retrieving bird dog, the other a working herding dog.

Nate was treated for heartworm disease. Treated dogs must be on a monthly heartworm pill such as Heartguard every month for two years.
