6/29 update: Roxie is a sweet old girl that loves to go on walks and does very well on a leash. She likes to sit with you and smell the flowers. She is fine with dogs her size and enjoys interacting with them. She is NOT OK with smaller dogs or cats. She is at a decent weight, is UTD on her HW prevention and flea prevention. LOVES to be brushed!


Roxie has a prey drive, which means she can't be near small dogs or cats or any other kind of small animals.  Also, invisible/wireless fencing is not suitable for her due to the risk of other animals coming onto the property.


4/18 update from Julia on the 3 boxers: Lola could not be spayed. She is seriously overweight, in heat and has coccidia, all 3 had it so we are treating with marquis. Dr. K felt given Lola's age that it was too risky. The other 2, Sugar and Roxie, were spayed. All 3 are HW neg. We did bloodwork on Sugar prior to spay and all looked really good. We are going to run bloodwork on Lola next week


4/13 update from Julia: The 3 boxers are wonderful and I am in LOVE with Lola. Head over heels in LOVE!!! Sugar is busy for an old girl but so sweet and Roxie is also a love of a dog. These 3 dogs deserve the best we can find for them. All 3 seem fine with other dogs. 


Bio: A breeder ditched 3 female boxers today, He said if we did not take them he was going to do something, not sure if that meant kill shelter or kill them himself. Said they "were too old to breed". Said each one is 8yrs but I think they are older than that. The other two were placed with rescue and Roxie is still waiting.  She weighs about 60# and is people friendly.  She tested negative for heartworms and started on preventative.  We spayed her 4/12/13.


Please note: In most cases, the breed mix is our best guess based on the size/appearance of the dog. Most of the dogs we get are strays so their history is unknown.

Dogs in the Rowan County K-9 Shelter receive their first dhppl vaccination (parvo/distemper) upon arrival at the pound. Rabies vaccine and spay/neuter surgery can be done for the $50 adoption fee. Please note rabies vaccine and surgeries are NOT done on site and dogs must be adopted before they receive rabies vaccine or surgery. We currently do not have the ability to cat test the pound dogs.
