Meet Jewel

Jewel has been adopted and now lives with her contractor guardian whose home base is Staten Island but he travels everywhere for work and take takes his dog along for company.  This is a perfect situation for her - she bonds so tightly to her care-giver that she hates being separated from them during the day.  These two will be good company for each other. We got a call last week from a previous adopter saying that she was at a local park and there was a loose dog roaming alone and scared. She sat away from everyone and howled indicating that she was upset about something. I went down with a trap but I was able to get a leash around her after plying her with food and soft words. Once the leash was around her neck she visibly relaxed and was much more willing to interact with us. We did get her in the car and as we drove out of the park she starting pacing and whining and indicated that she really didn't want to leave that spot - it was as if she was waiting for someone to return to get her. It was heartbreaking because we did everything we could to find an owner but came up empty at every turn. She had no collar, no tags, no chip, there are no signs, no one reported her missing to any of the local vets, shelters or local police. It became apparent that she was dumped in the park by an uncaring owner and left to fend for herself. And that is so sad because this girl is a VERY loyal dog. She really bonds to her guardian and all she wants is to be with you. She must be missing her previous owner something awful because she is such a loyal companion (as Jindos are known to be). Jewel (as we named her) is arround 2 years old and weighs about 60 pounds. We thought at first she was older because she is pretty laid back and was in rough shape but her playful side has since come out and she has blossomed after having good care.  She is very housebroken and LOVES to play fetch. She is OK in a crate but would rather be with her person. Jewel does have a very high prey drive however, so we wont place her in a home with cats or other dogs. In fact, we prefer a home without kids because she may try to chase them if her instincts kick in. She is a really sweet dog tho and would do well as a constant companion for an individual or couple looking for a friend. She is not a dog park kinda dog but probably would enjoy long walks or sitting by the fire with her family. Jewel is spayed, up to date with shots & microchipped.  Whomever dropped this dog off and left her alone was really cruel. She really is a good girl.  All this dog wants to do is please her guardian and it was a shame that someone did this to her.p>
