Update from foster: Rex has been around all of the dogs in my pack. He gets along fine with all of them. He is very lovable and playful. As far as housebreaking, Rex doesn't stay indoors long enough to know. He won't come in the doggie door unless I lift the flap and then he won't stay long. He goes out the doggie door just fine. He prefers the back porch. Maybe because he feels free there where he can roam the whole backyard. Fully vetted and ready to go. Please consider Rex!

Rex is scheduled for a neuter 11/27.

Bio: Rex gets along well with other dogs. He likes to play with other dogs and is sharing a pen with Athena and Zeus. He does get a little food possessive at meal time, but it's just growling and posturing. He intimidates the other dogs but doesn't hurt them. He is very friendly and active.  He's also heartworm negative! Yay!

Rex's life has not been one filled with love and care.  He has spent his dozen or more years tethered with a log chain to a few boards that are suppose to be his house.  Unfortunately in KY, this is considered adequate housing for a dog.  When he was picked up there was food thrown in the dirt for him to eat and not a water bowl in sight.  Also there was a heavy padlock on his collar for some reason.  His good fortune arrived when owners decided to move and leave Rex and him behind. Neighbors spoke to owners who agreed to turn them over to STAR to rehome.  We hope so much that a kind person will take Rex in and show him the kindness he deserves for the time he has left.  Photo 3 is where he had been living :(  Snoopy and Rex go to the vet 10/22 for a heartworm test, exam etc.  Praying for good news and that he is heartworm negative. So far seems fine with other dogs.

Dogs in the Rowan County K-9 Shelter receive their first dhppl vaccination (parvo/distemper) upon arrival at the pound. Rabies vaccine and spay/neuter surgery can be done for the $50 adoption fee. Please note rabies vaccine and surgeries are NOT done on site and dogs must be adopted before they receive rabies vaccine or surgery. We currently do not have the ability to cat test the pound dogs.
