Meet Lacy

LACY: This is a cat who flaunts her beauty from a distance. The pleasure of petting her is an earned privilege. When I say earned, I mean you have to earn her trust first, then she'll let you pet her. Lacy is one of our long-term residents. Because she is untrusting of most people she often hides when potential adopters come to visit. Our volunteers who have taken the time and patience to earn her trust are the only people who can pet her. I have been one of only two people who has had the pleasure of getting to know Miss Lacy. While alone at the shelter taking pictures one evening, this lovely lady approached me with caution yet the desire for affection lingered in her eyes. Very carefully I coaxed her to me and was amazed at how sweet she really is. This gave me the opportunity to have a great photo-shoot with her. Let me tell you, Lacy was working it for the camera! I not only got to pet her, scratch her under the chin and rub her belly, but I also got some great pictures. She was making full eye-contact with me and rolling around on the table looking especially cute. Since that day, Lacy holds a special place in my heart. On June 1st I witnessed another volunteer pick Lacy up and move her to one of her favorite sleeping spots. Wow, I couldn't hardly believe the trust he has developed with her. I haven't reached that level of trust with Lacy yet (being able to pick her up), but now I know the possibilities of her being a wonderful pet and companion. This is not a cat we can turn our backs on and assume she is unadoptable. She has the capability to be a precious companion to the right person who will offer her a home and the TLC she needs. The rewards of earning her love and affection would be well worth the time and effort. I hope that person will give Lacy the safe, quiet home she will grow and blossom in.
