Meet Dakota

Meet sweet Dakota who is being fostered in Litchfield, Maine.
Dakota or Kota as she is now called, is a 2 1/2 year old Red Heeler, also known as an Australian Cattle Dog, who weighs about 45 lbs. IHer cutest thing is if you sing the wiggle, wiggle, wiggle part of the song "I'm Sexy and I Know it",  she runs over in a  a full body wiggle to get hugs, kisses and belly rubs.  We started calling her wiggles because she will sit in front of us and start wagging her stump which turns into the full body wiggle.  She is super affectionate.  She is very sweet and really wants to please her people, once she has claimed you as hers she wants nothing more than to make you happy. She is currently living with 2 dogs, a cat and a 10 year old boy. She loves to play with the other dogs, she can be rough but she quickly backs down if the other dogs have had enough. The resident cats know how to stand their ground and she respects that but she might chase a cat who ran from her. She loves to run around and play with the boy, she is a herding breed so she does tend to bark and nip at his wheels if he bikes or scooters with her but it's in fun not aggressive, but that does mean she should probably be in a family with older kids. Kota loves, loves the outdoors. She went on several camping and hiking trips this summer and was a great camp and trail dog. She has gone on several snowshoe trips and bounds through the snow. There's nothing better than we she comes charging back through the snow with a big doggy smile and looks at you with what is clearly a big "Thank You for bringing me out" smile. She would do best in a country setting because she does want to chase cars that are close by, such as walking on the road. She ignores them if they are on the road and she is a few hundred feet away. She loves to play with other dogs but will need thoughtful introductions to new dogs coming into her house. Once a new dog has visited they are welcomed back with open paws but the first meeting needs to be monitored. She tries to let them know shes the boss but will back down if the human or other dog tells her to. She loves to sleep with her humans, it's her favorite cuddle time. She loves her toys and has a big selection of chew toys at her foster home. She has perfect house manners, fully housetrained, does not need to be crated when left alone, she is very calm in the house, content to chew on a bone or watch the world from the window. Although without regular exercise she may become bored and therefore destructive, she is a dog that will need good exercise everyday. That can be a run, walk or hike, playing chase with the other dogs for an extended time, mountain biking, etc. Kota will make some lucky human a very loyal, affectionate, fun, smart companion; maybe that person is you?
