Meet Davy

Four-year old Davy and his best bud, Joanie, were used solely as a breeding dogs and it shows. Not only were these little Pekingese incredibly shy when they arrived at ACS, their now white coats were stained dark yellow on their legs, belly and tail from being forced to sit and sleep in their own urine month after month.  . It's obvious that Davy hadn't had a lot of positive experiences with people prior to coming to ACS. His whole body - all 10 lbs of it - stiffens up when he's held and he cringes when being petted as if expecting to be hit or worse. It's so heartbreaking that Davy's entire life prior to coming to ACS had been devoid of kindness and love. We've been working on earning his trust and he has relaxed a little but he still has a long way to go. Davy needs a patient owner, preferably one who has experience with puppy-mill dogs, and a quiet environment where he can continue to relax and learn to be a dog and not just a breeding machine. His new home must also have a fenced yard.  Davy will walk on a leash provided he's with Joanie but he is uncomfortable the whole time,  When he's  out in the yard, however, his true personality comes out.  He will joyously romp and play with this huge smile on his face. And he absolutely adores toys of all kinds.   Considering that he's lived almost his entire life in a crate, Davy's doing well with crate-training but we don't know if he is housetrained. The Pekingese is generally described as an affectionate noble dog that is intelligent and brave but can be self-centered and stubborn. It will choose who will be its 'boss.' The Pekingese needs praise when it does something well and should not be disciplined too harshly when it does something wrong or it may withdraw and pout as its feelings are easily hurt. Since it doesn't like to be disturbed when resting, it is not really suitable for a household with young children. Most will usually get along well with other household pets and, because it has relatively small demands for exercise, it is an ideal dog for people who don't like exercise themselves. Careful grooming is an essential part of caring for this breed. Davy is definitely going to need a lot of work but for the person who's willing to give this 'diamond in the rough' a chance, we think he'll become a gem of companion! T We would be thrilled if Davy and Joanie could go to the same home.   You'd get twice the love and have double the fun!   To find out if sweet little Davy would be a good fit for you and your household, just stop by the shelter and ask to meet him. ///DAVY IS SPONSORED THRU AUGUST 2013 BY OLDFATHER LAW FIRM.
