Meet Marguerite

Marguerite is our sweet Southern Belle. She is a petite thing with a charming personality. She loves hanging out with her human, preferably on a lap giving kisses and resting her head on a shoulder. Like any good Southern Belle, though, she has a sassy playful side, which includes chewing on bones (daintily), chasing a ball (no promises that she’ll bring it back), or enticing her canine buddies to play with her.

Marguerite came to us from the shelter where she had been picked up as a stray. We aren’t sure of her background, but it is clear she went to charm school – she was already house and crate trained when she arrived in her foster home. She knows a few commands too, and is easily corrected with a quick “no.”

She is very well behaved in the house, and likes to perch up on the couch or a bed, preferably in a sunbeam with a bone. As the lady of the house, she likes to keep an eye on all the happenings so will trot about from room to room making sure she is aware of who is where and what they are up to. Since she has learned to open most of our interior doors, she has not troubles with her investigations.

She interacts well with her foster siblings – 2 older, calm dogs and a cat. However, she does frighten easily with rowdy dogs and will let her displeasure be known with some snarling and nipping. The same goes for people that scare her; a refined lady doesn’t like to move too fast, so all introductions with new humans (and dogs) should be monitored. For this reason, she would be best in a house with older children who understand there are moments when a lady just needs alone time. Once Marguerite realizes a person is trustworthy (took about an hour with her foster mom and dad), there is no turning off her cuddles and affection. KID UPDATE: Marguerite thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with 5 and 7 year old girls. After a slow introduction to the kids, she did very well with them, rolling over for belly rubs. She did jump up to give kisses and used her mouth to communicate (not biting, just holding), so she needs to be around dog savvy kids who aren't frightened by this behavior (and she needs to learn that this isn't proper behavior).

She is an absolutely wonderful and special pup, looking for her special human match – someone who can show her a tiny bit of patience, and will ultimately be rewarded with a true gem of a dog!
