Dusty is a fine Southern Gentleman seeking his forever home. He was about to be dumped into a pound by someone who no longer wanted him. A very kind lady took him in, but unfortunately her landlord said he couldn't stay. Dusty is now in a foster home in Northern Virginia with foster parents who are readying him for his “furever” home.

Dusty is a very loving Pry mix (we believe mixed with Collie). He gets along with other dogs and even cats! We would not recommend him with infants or toddlers as sometimes older dogs can be stressed by active little ones. He is on the smaller side for a male Pyr. In typical Pyr fashion, he is protective, but not aggressive. He does become a little anxious when thunderstorms pass right overhead, but mostly he is fine with them. Dusty would fit well into most situations-a retired household, a calm family, or even a single person who has time for him. He does not require a lot of activity. He goes for a long walk in the morning with his foster brothers and is learning to walk without pulling on his lead. He loves to sit right next to you during the evening. He also plays in the back yard with Frisbees and balls.

His foster mom is impressed with his ability to learn and follow commands. Unlike most Pyrs, Dusty comes when called, understands how to “heel” while walking and also can “stay” for a short period of time. He is learning to sit on command, but that’s a work in progress. Please do not let his age worry you. He is in good health and Pyrs have very good longevity for being a giant breed. It will be a lucky household that brings home this Southern Gentleman!

About Us: National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes so we know how they will interact with your family. Please consider adopting or fostering. Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. Prior to adoption, NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks (usually more), spayed or neutered and fully vetted. Dogs coming from out of area are certified with a USDA health certificate before going to their new homes. Our rescuers adhere to the highest placement standards and will take back any dog whose adoption does not succeed. Visit www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
