Moe Shepherd & Hound Mix Cincinnati, OH

Moe is your classic tough guy with a heart of gold. He was found abandoned by his owners, tied to a stop sign, so we’ve no idea what life was like for him before then.

Moe is very friendly with people he knows and he has a tendency to be protective of them--a tendency we are working to redirect, but which his forever home will need to continue working with him to prevent. For this reason he will do best in a quiet, adults-only home that can devote time to showing him that he can relax and let the humans do the protecting for a change! And wow, does he know how to relax! Moe is very lucky and has a few devoted volunteer friends who take him on home visits. His favorite thing to do is to curl up on the couch (or bed) with you, sometimes trying to sit in your lap. He is a wonderful house guest who treats the cats in his mentor's home like family.

Moe is in training where he is learning all the basic commands that will build his confidence and help him get used to being around new people. What do you know, we’ve found out that an old dog CAN learn new tricks. Moe gets along well with the other dogs in his class, but to be honest he sometimes gets a little cranky at some of the people because they are asking him to do things he doesn’t feel like doing at the time. (Plus it’s summer and the classes are outside. Enough said). He likes to get a little goofy in class and he enjoys rolling around in the grass, looking for belly rubs at the same time. It is hard to resist giving him belly rubs when he stares at you with his sweet eyes and gives you a big thump of his tail.

Once Moe gets to know you, he is a faithful and loveable dog. We have volunteers at STAF who would do just about anything to help Moe, and you, get to know each other. You’d end up with a wonderful dog companion for years to come, plus free dog sitting whenever needed :)

All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
You must complete an application at the shelter prior to meeting any of our animals. (Sorry--our application is not available on-line or via email.)
We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.
We require a fenced yard (sorry--no invisible fences) for homes with children under age 13.
We do request vet and personal references.
At this time, we are only able to consider applicants within 150 miles of Cincinnati.
