Dudley Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix Lenexa, KS

Dudley is a pure bred, 6-7 years old, Treeing Walker Coonhound, and has the typical hound personality. He was originally picked up on abuse/neglect charges in Leavenworth and was transferred to an animal shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized. Consequently, he was transferred to The Pet Connection where he was placed in the rehabilitation program to teach him how to become a good house dog. He worked on basic skills such as sit, stay, and walking on a leash. He became a resident dog here. His foster mom reported that he is not particularly interested in her cats and they were not afraid of him. He gets along well with her 2 dogs who tend to be dominating. Dudley slept in bed with his foster mom all night long and is a late riser. He is house trained, but not when left in the garage for periods of time. Like many dogs, Dudley likes to chew on fluffy things so can't be left inside unsupervised. He does fine in a crate. Dudley has a sweet temperament and loves attention. He tends to be a little reserved when meeting new people and smaller children. He doesn't jump on people and has never been aggressive. Typical of his breed, Dudley tends to bark and is vocal on walks. He is particularly intent on going after squirrels. He becomes very excited when he meets other dogs during walks, and is a strong dog, so will need continued training on how to heel.
