Rescuing basset hounds in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, DC and Southwest Pennsylvania, BROOD promotes the humane treatment of homeless, stray and abandoned basset hounds by providing food, shelter, medical care and placement in adoptive homes.
Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD) was founded in 1996 and in the past 26 years has rescued and found homes for over 3,350 basset hounds and basset mixes. Working as an all-volunteer organization, BROOD rescues hounds that are lost or surrendered to shelters and finds adoptive homes for them.
ADOPT A BROOD BASSET: We adopt to residents of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, DC, Delaware and southern Pennsylvania only.
Please note that we do not operate as a shelter and we do not house our dogs at one location. Our dogs are in foster homes and boarding kennels outside the Charlottesville area, which is our mailing address. All our dogs are in foster homes or kennels. Dogs may be visited in foster homes by approved adopters only.
Available dogs range from young hounds to wonderful seniors who are looking for a loving home to spend their retirement years. Be sure to review the information on our website to decide if adopting a basset is right for you and your family.
Please only apply to adopt from BROOD is you are interested in adopting a dog from us. We are an all volunteer organization and processing adoption applications takes time and money. We appreciate your interest in our hounds.
