Rescuing basset hounds in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, DC and South west Pennsylvania, BROOD promotes the humane treatment of homeless, stray and abandoned basset hounds by providing food, shelter, medical care and placement in adoptive homes.
Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD) was founded in 1996 and in the past 21 years has rescued and found homes for over 3,000 basset hounds and basset mixes. Working as an all-volunteer organization, BROOD rescues hounds that are lost or surrendered to shelters and finds adoptive homes for them.
ADOPT A BROOD BASSET: At any time, BROOD can have 20 to 30 bassets available for adoption. Check out the bios, pictures and videos of the dogs on our website at www.brood-va.org.
Please note that we do not operate as a shelter and we do not house our dogs at one location. Our dogs are in foster homes and boarding kennels outside the Charlottesville area, which is our mailing address. All our dogs are in foster homes or kennels. Dogs may be visited by approved adopters only.
Available dogs range from young hounds to wonderful seniors who are looking for a loving home to spend their retirement years. Be sure to review the information on our website to decide if adopting a basset is right for you and your family.
