** What is the adoption process?
You can meet a dog prior to it’s available date - just know that an owner can still come for it.
1. Choose a dog that best fits your lifestyle and family.
2. Show ID.
3. Pay fee of $100. (This must be given in either cash - OR - 2 checks ONLY.)
4. If already fixed, the dog will leave with you. If not - the dog will stay at LCDK until the next vet run. (More info below on that.)
5. Dogs are adopted out "as is" and may NOT be returned. Owner surrenders are only taken on a case by case basis, as decided by staff.
** Can I pay ahead or fill out paperwork to adopt before the available date?
No. All adoptions are first come, first serve on the available date (no deposits taken to hold a dog).
** What if there's a popular dog with a lot of adopters waiting?
In the case of multiple potential adopters at the same time, a lottery system has been put in place (effective 3/29/17): Potential adopters can begin gathering in the parking lot 10 minutes prior to open. Doors open at 10am - all adopters will be given a ticket and staff will draw a winner. That person must have ID, the fee and be completing paperwork in their own name.
** Will the dog be spayed/ neutered when I adopt?
Yes. Upon adoption, the dog will stay here until the next vet run, get fixed (included in the fee, along with a current year license) - and you pick the dog up after the fix. Instructions are given at the time of adoption.
