Northeast Animal Shelter, established in 1976, is one of New England’s largest no-kill animal shelters. Our mission is to save as many adoptable dogs and cats as we can and place them in loving, forever homes. Every year we rescue thousands of cats and dogs from across the country, transport them to our Shelter, and provide them with the care and support they need until they are adopted.
Our Shelter is open from 10-8 Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday our shelter is open from 10-6. When you arrive you are more then welcome to walk through the cat and dog rooms on a self tour. If you see a cat or dog that you want to meet with, you will meet with an Adoption Counselor. You will then be able to spend time with the pet.
Plan to arrive several hours before closing so you have time to choose your pet and meet with an adoption counselor. Sometimes there will be no waiting period to meet with an Adoption Counselor, other times (especially weekends) are very busy and there could be up to a 3 hour wait. We do same-day adoptions, so you could bring your new pet home on the day you are there. Sometimes the pet will have to stay a couple of days longer because they may be scheduled for dental work or a spay/neuter procedure.
