Our Mission
Free Korean Dogs (FKD) is a registered charity in Canada (BN:80580 0166RR0001).
Founded in Toronto, Canada on July 1st, 2015, our organizations rescue dogs from Korea’s dog meat trade and other at-risk circumstances and find their forever-loving homes in Canada and the US.
Rescue, Adoption, and Public Awareness!
Our international rescue and adoption program saves over hundreds of dogs each year from the Korean dog meat trade and finds their homes in Canada. Since 2015, we have shut down two dog meat farm operations, rescued over two hundred dogs from the dog meat trade, and found forever homes for over seven hundred dogs rescued from euthanasia or the risk of being forced into the meat trade.
We also promote public awareness to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion for dogs in Korea through campaigns, protests, and events. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and education, we hope one day all dogs and animals can lead peaceful and happy lives.
Adoption Policy
1> What are the steps to adopting a dog?
1. Please submit the adoption application.
2. Our adoption screeners will review your application and get back to you in a couple of days.
3. If your application has been approved, the screeners will contact you for phone or video interview.
4. If you are accepted, you may choose how to transport your dog. There are two ways: via cargo and via a flight volunteer. Keep in mind that finding a flight volunteer to your destination might take a month or even longer. If you can afford an air fare, using a cargo is recommended.
5. We will send you an estimate and once it is accepted, you’ll receive an invoice.
6. Once the invoice is paid, we will book a flight.
7. You will then be sent an Adoption Agreement which you must sign and return to Free Korean Dogs.
8. The transportation fee is not refundable and non-transferable.
2> We ask all adopters to follow our policy.
1.All dogs must wear a name tag at all times. Adopters will be asked to provide a photo of their adopted or foster dog with name tag.
2. Please use a 3 point harness for at least two months instead of collar to be safe.
3. An annual checkup is required. Please send us statements from your dog’s annual vet visit.
4. Crating dogs on an ongoing basis (i.e. not for training purposes) is not allowed.
5. Please make sure your dog is on a leash at all times when outside of your home.
6. Never leave a dog alone with babies, children or other dogs. Rescue dogs can sometimes behave unexpected ways. You are responsible for any damage occurred by your dog.
7. You are responsible to update us about your dog for the next 6 months. Send us photos and/or videos, too.
