Tilly is a big, beautiful girl looking for a home to call her own. She was used for polo years ago, and trail riding more recently. Here, she has been on the back burner in recent months, so I pulled her out recently to see how she did after about 4 months off.

She was initially a bit nervous and distracted about being separated from her best friend, Angel, who she has lived with for years. However, after 15-20 minutes of groundwork, she really started to settle into the work and pay attention. She didn’t seem very familiar with the specific exercises, but I was impressed by how quickly she picked up on what I was asking her to do. With some more regular work, I think she would really excel.

Under saddle, she did really well. I suspect her previous owners have spent much more time riding than working on the ground. Even though it has been quite a while since she was ridden, she saddled up and rode off without a hitch and gave no signs of even thinking about bucking or rearing. She has a comfortable jog in the round pen and strode out into a nice, long trot in the open space of the trail. She cantered without a fuss both in the pen and on the trail. She rode away from home, alone, without a problem. The worst she ever did was stop as if to ask if I was SURE I wanted to leave everyone behind. She moved off easily with a cluck and squeeze and pointing her straight. In general, she was a bit more forward on the trail but slowed down easily with the occasional gentle reminder. Tilly understood the basics of moving off my feet and neck reining with the occasional direct rein “hint."

I think she would take well to more advanced training; work with her over the winter and who knows what she could be doing by next spring! Or, she would be ready to hit the trails now.

We are recommending an intermediate rider for Tilly for now, simply based on her size and her willingness to move out if asked.

She stood tied to be unsaddled and picked up all four feet.

Overall, I think she’s a really nice girl! She is healthy, though admittedly a bit out of shape from sitting.

Her adoption fee is $950. Adopt her with her best friend Angel and get two gorgeous thoroughbreds for only $1700!
