Meet Patricia
Hi my name is Patricia! I am a 15.2h senior mare.
In the one week before I finally landed at Horse plus I went through two sale barns. No one really wanted me because I’m older and after being tossed around I really don’t look well. I’ve lost all my weight of younger years and was struggling to just keep moving around. My energy was low and I just wanted to be warm and cared for again. The future looked dark and hopeless but then a day came with brightness and the how I had lost was renewed. I arrived with a load of other horses and was seen by the vet. There were mutterings about how well I was and what they should do but shortly I found myself in a dry barn with a big ol’ bale of hay. It had been several days since id had a good meal or even a good drink so these things were a very welcome sight. I have gained back some of my weight but its slow going, eating can be exhausting ya know, sometimes you have to take a break! Most days me and my pasture mates hang out and eat to our hearts content and sometimes we manage to get in a good grooming session. I liked to go riding and I still have plenty of life left. Hopefully I fully recover and can go on many rides or just have a family to love me and keep me close to home.
Patricia came to us from auction in October. She was sick and worn out. She needed and still does need lots of groceries. She has gained a good amount and continues to look better. She is saddle broke but due to being in extensive rehab we will not be riding her. She is easy to catch and leads nicely, as well as stands tied and picks up all her feet. She doesn’t like to back out of the trailer but will hop right in when asked. She seems to be a quiet mare but does not prefer having a bit in her mouth and is more forward moving under saddle. If you want to rescue a horse in need and are willing to feed her up and get her where she needs to be I think she would be a good fit for a INTERMEDIATE or CONFIDENT ADULT beginner rider. Rescues need time to heal both emotionally and physically from their past so it is an investment to rescue.
