Meet Marvel
UPDATE: 3/23/21
My heart sometimes hurts for Marvel and all she has been through. I find myself asking if theres anyone out there that will try to understand her and at least give her a home she can live out her days. Marvel is settling down and comes to the fence for treats. She is responsive and usually will turn and face you no matter what. She has never shown signs of aggression. With round pen work Marvel is very quick to do her turns and joins up without much effort at all. The "try" in this girl is exceptional and I really want to see her with someone that sees what I see.
I don’t know what I did to deserve my life history of the past many months. I always did my best to do my job and be the partner my owners asked me to be but some days were hard because they never cared for me and just used me as a tool. I wanted to have a relationship with them but it never happened. Eventually I was taken to auction and sold not just once but more. Every time the guys were rough and jerked on my face, even twitching my ears and nose to try and keep me from getting away. I woke up one morning in an auction barn and was greeted by a girl with a gentle touch. She talked to me and told me it was going to be ok. After haltering me she was quiet but I was super scared and didn’t want people jerking on my head so I tried to keep it out of reach. Than the guy came around the corner that had sold me the night before. He told the girl he’d take care of me and if they didn’t want me he would buy me back. I threw a fit and hoped id never see that terrible man again. After awhile the girl and her people loaded me up on a trailer and brought me here to the shelter. I was still defensive and very weary of people. I stayed in the pasture as long as possible but eventually they came and brought me down to the other barn. The trainer said she just wanted me to settle in for a couple weeks and bond with me before she pushed me through the evaluation process so back to pasture I went. I enjoyed good food everyday along with pasture and space to run with my friends. I hope with time I can find a happy home with a girl that is gentle.
Marvel came to us very scared. The day we loaded her at auction and brought her to the shelter she was so scared she was fighting us with all she knew how. I was worried she was going to never settle down. After her time in quarantine she had settled down for us girls enough she took her wormer easily and was a little more quiet. When we brought the horses in for evaluation I chose to let her settle more and make sure she was well cared for. With time and good feed she is getting more trusting and I can catch her without much trouble at all. Ive worked with her a handful of times now and she seems to be extremely sensitive to pressure on her top of her nose as well as loud noses and being hit. She seems to be broke to ride but I have not climbed on as she needs to know I’m not here to force her to work or do things she isn’t comfortable with. She lunges nicely stands to be saddled. She ties very well and only paws sometimes. I will be looking for a FEMALE ONLY owner for her as it seems she is much more traumatized by guys. She needs time to heal from her past but has good potential. She is completely sound and doesn’t seem to have health issues.
