Bella is one of my favorite horses to take riding now! She has come so far since arriving here with us. Many people think when they read these bios that the horse is just permanently the way they are portrayed here but they do in-fact progress. I just don't have the time to write every time they make progress. Bella has done everything from round pen work to being ridden english, standing tied nicely, bathing, riding on the trails, w/t/c, she has a beautiful carriage and loves to please. Some of my favorite things are when you walk past her pasture or where she's tied she "chuckles", it is the cutest thing ever! She also stands ground tied to be tacked up and just has a soft eye. The only thing I'd say she is not good at is going trail riding ALONE. She does fantastic out in the woods with OTHER horses and will lead or follow nicely. My ideal home for Bella would be somewhere she can live in something bigger than a stall, maybe a drylot type of paddock and with an owner that has the confidence to make her stay respectful of peoples space.
Bella has come along ways in her training. We have spent time working on lunging and she has made big improvements. Over the last couple weeks I also did some desensitizing and she wasn't spooky at all. She walks over ground poles and wears a tarp without a care in the world. She collects nicely under saddle and seems to have a dressage back ground possibly. I also had the pleasure to ride her down the road last week and she did well. She did not spook or do anything crazy just was very attentive to everything going on. She could still use some work with softening to the bit but all and all she would be a great horse for a confident intermediate rider.
Bella arrived here at the shelter just before the new year. Her owner couldn't keep her anymore and wanted her to find a good home. I want to give her that opportunity. Bella is in her prime of life. She does not lack any amount of energy and would go for miles. I have not had the opportunity to take her out side the round pen yet but was told she is spooky on the trails. I personally felt like i would ride her out and about and she would get use to it quickly. During the evaluation we did a lot of ground work and lunging as her previous owner said she was aggressive when being lunged. We found her to be easy to catch and a bit pushy. She doesn't seem to be buddy sour and lives in her own paddock currently so we can give her the Thyro-L (see "special needs" above) easier. We had several horses tied nearby doing evaluations and she seemed to be more high strung, dancing and pawing while tied because of that. She does pick up all her feet and stands to be saddled which surprised me a bit. However, she does know how to lung but she acts like a 5-yr-old who has been off for a year. My thoughts are that she was lunged before every ridding session and learned that if she acted crazy her owner wouldn't ride. I enjoyed riding her for a few mins in the round pen and she is a responsive mare and definitely has had good training. I believe she also has been used for primarily arena riding therefore not helping her with confidence on the trail. She was also kept in a stall so all her pent up energy had no where to go except when her owner wanted to ride or lung her. Bella needs a confident and experienced horseman/woman to lay firm boundaries and not let her get away with bluffing.
