Banner is doing a world better! You can see his progress by looking him up on youtube. As small as the steps may seem they are definitely noticeable when you see and feel the difference made in the time spent.
After more time with Banner we have been thinking he was most likely ridden at some point when he was still growing causing him to have a bit of a swayback. He is a VERY easy keeper and tends to have a very round belly. He is doing way better with ground work and being touched. It would seem like someone possibly twitched his ear to the point it cut off circulation as well as beat him in the head. Sometimes it's hard to realize just how far some of these guys have come because we only see how far we want them to go, but Banner truly is a testament that time and love can change them. He use to be so head shy we couldn't really halter him, so we spent hours just feeding him and petting him until he trust enough to let us halter him. At this time we are able to mostly pick up his front feet, catch him, rub the saddle pad all over and he stands tied and leads like a gentleman. He isn't perfect but who is? Please consider him and his future if you are interested in adoption and putting in some work.
I think I’m handsome and like running around the pasture. I spent most my years grazing and being pulled out occasionally but the people weren’t always very kind to me, so I just have learned to keep plenty of space between me and people in general.
Banner definitely catches people’s eye but often we don’t realize there’s more than their appearance that matters. During his evaluation we spent a lot of time working on catching and being ok with being touched. More than the touching it is the movements that scare him. He is halter broke and seems to know quite a bit but I’m not sure that he was ever broke to ride due to his reactions with just general handling. We did introduce the saddle pad and once he settled down we called it a day. We will be working with him and hopefully be able to find him a home that is willing to work through his trust issues.
