Meet ZUES-JJ (NEW YORK)

IF INTERESTED IN THIS DOG: Please go to www.jcldr.com and put in an application. Long distance transport can be discussed. No one is obligated to adopt by putting in an application but it saves a lot of time with questions in our phone interview if we have a jump start into your hopes and dreams for this dog fitting into your life and vice versa. We want the match for a forever home. We also have a second video you can watch on instagram of Zues. Seen @ janeenshoularescue

Zues is about 4 years old, came from Houston Tx, fully vaccinated, about 80 pounds, fed twice a day and HW negative. Housebroken. He loves children but might be a little much for small children so no toddlers please... he is a very sweet boy with older children that are dog respectful but he plays a little rough at times. He has a lot of energy. He is very responsive to. He is crate broke and really wonderful in his crate. Loves to ride in a vehicle and does well in or out of the crate. He loves the water and loves to dock dive. He will go after boats so foster keeps him on a long line but he does well and loves it. No one wants him tangled up in a boat motor or injured.
Here is more that the foster has shared with us regarding Zues:

Loves to play fetch with his people and has learned much better to bring it back for us to keep playing the game. He still prefers the keep away game as many Catahoulas do. Very good with other dogs. Does have high prey drive for birds and animals. He does dislike the horses, but has not had a chance to chase as always on leash. A strong NO, Leave It” discourages any escalation. Same with a dropped off cat that hangs around barn.
Extremely smart! . Excellent traveling loose in car. No car sickness. Also same in crate.
We both say that if he can think it, he will do it. One nite I heard a noise and looked behind me. He was sitting in a chair in the kitchen, so he could look out window… I told him “No, Off” he happily got down from chair - it hasn’t happened since.
He does well in dog yard playing by himself. But does love to dig ( we just fill in holes - not an issue here). Also will entertain himself with the deck rug dragging it all over.
Also will sunbathe on top of deck table. He is quite young as heart.
He gets exercise 4-5 days a week either with me or my husband. He easily can run 5 miles a day and still will come home & be running circles by himself in the yard. Or ready to play fetch…WE

The only thing that is negative about him is that he is rather independent and not food motivated so he is not good to return or go with you. He will wander and hunt and not good to come . He is better on leash or long line. Many Catahoulas are this way, he is focused on his hunt or his own interests. In time that can be worked on and most do get better about that. He loves people, it isn’t indifference. He isn’t clingy and needy. He is a dog that does indeed need a yard but he can be a leash dog with a lot of exercise on leash and long line. There is nothing really ugly or bad about this dog. He appears to be a mix but shows plenty of Catahoula, a bit of a leash puller like many focused working dogs are, but does good on a martingale collar. We feel he could have a little Lab in the mix but that is an educated guess on our part.
