Meet Zorro
Happy, friendly and loving, Zorro has never met a stranger, and quickly won the heart of his foster family. In fact, being with people and having a paw in all they’re up to is his favorite pastime. Other dogs find him a playful easy going pal, but he prefers they keep their paws off his treats. Small critters should be ready for a good sprint.
Zorro is house trained, crate trained and knows sit and to come when called. He takes treats nicely, rides well in the car (and also in a private plane that brought him to us!) and walks pretty well on leash. A typical Lab who loves food, he’s demonstrated a bit of kitchen counter kleptomania.
More from those who know and love this pup:
“Zorro has a wonderful personality and is a very loyal Lab. When Zorro was first out of the shelter he stayed with a family that has multiple dogs, and a hobby farm. A mixture of dogs was there and Zorro did well with all. He was around farm animals also. There were cats and he was fine with them. If they ran, he would sometimes chase but meant no harm. At my house I have an older dog and the two of them were good friends. When Zorro was at the shelter he was taken to a local TV station for exposure and did great. He has also gone to doggie daycare and loved it. He likes the water but mostly to lay in vs actual swimming.
“When Zorro was at our local shelter, he was a staff and volunteer favorite. He wasn't getting much attention in the overcrowded shelter and we feared he might not make it out, and we were not going to let that happen. We pulled him and put him through heartworm treatment so he could come to Colorado as a Safe Harbor Lab Rescue dog. Many thanks to SHLR for giving him this chance as he certainly deserves it.”
In a nutshell: The family Zorro chooses to adopt him will be joined by an amazing and loyal companion!
NOTE:
Many dogs, like Zorro, who come from Arkansas or other southern states test positive for heartworms, a disease carried by mosquitos. He has been treated following the protocol of the American Heartworm Society https://www.heartwormsociety.org/heartworms-in-dogs. His treatment is complete. Zorro’s adopter must: (1) keep his activity level low for the next few months, (2) keep him on monthly heartworm preventative for the rest of his life, and (3) do a follow up heartworm test next April 2025 (paid for by Safe Harbor).
