Meet Zoey

4/10 UPDATE In her time with us, Zoey has blossomed into a confident, happy girl who is responsive to training and a joy to be around. One of her favorite volunteers has this to say: "Zoey is such an awesome dog. When she first came to STAF she was scared of new people (especially men), but was very easily won over and her wariness has continued to wane. Occasionally, when out she would be spooked by someone with a strange hat on or bark at an overly energetic dog, but I no longer see any of that behavior. Now, when I take her out she is open and friendly and is not scared of new people, noise, other dogs, etc. She will go after the squirrels but otherwise doesn't pull on the leash and is easily redirected with a verbal command. She is excellent in the car but will get in to anything that isn't in a bin with locking handles, so I suspect she might be that way in the home. (Read: don't leave food on the counters, etc). She is pretty affectionate with me but doesn't need constant attention."

2/3 UPDATE: Zoey takes a minute to warm up to people, but once she does she is just the sweetest pup and will absolutely melt your heart! In just a short time (with daily practice!) she has already gotten noticeably better on leash. She is cuddly, but also loves to play with toys ... it's highly entertaining to see her get the zoomies around the yard. She seems very dog friendly, and is always wagging her tail when she says hi to her fellow residents.

***
1/13/21 Zoey came to STAF when her family moved and was unable to take her along. Zoey is almost three years old (born 4/18/18) and is reportedly house-trained, crate-trained and not a chewer. We can vouch that she is a real lover. We're working on her leash manners (she tends to pull every which way) and her weight. (No judging ... we've all put on some pandemic pounds.) Poor girl arrived with an ear infection and some skin issues that we are working to resolve. Please check back for updates as we get to know Zoey better.

*** Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process, or email us at adoptAdog@STAF.org for next steps. ***

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 75-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
