Meet Zion

Zion is one of our longest foster residents. He'd love to meet you and begin life with his forever family! A caring donor has sponsored him for adoption so his fee is $0 (yes, zero dollars :)

Zion will be 2 years old in November 2023. He weighs about 50 lb.

Zion is good when walking on a leash, but will pull to get to exciting things. He's very good in a crate and will need a 42" to allow him room to sprawl. He has started retrieving tennis balls and Frisbees when playing with his people.

Zion is good with his pack of foster and family dogs. He can be choosy about adult dogs, but ignores or tolerates polite ones. He loves people and is willing to share their attention with his doggy friends.

Zion is house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. He rides well in a car and we recommend a tether to make sure he doesn't wander into the driver's space. He bonds well with his handler after a few hours to acclimate, enjoying the attention from volunteers and the public at social events.

Zion moved to a new foster in early Oct. to give him more experiences. He acclimated easily to the pet door and the dog toys. He is allowed to sleep in his foster mom's bed and is trying to get the girls in his new pack to play with him. He is learning to leave the chickens alone, as long as they're kept confined in their pen. He views them as squeaky toys through the fence, so a home with small animals unsecured or cats isn't recommended for our sweet boy. He loves all people, though, so the more the merrier :)

**********

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three-year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies.

Not all foster dogs are available for viewing during public events at Tractor Supply (360 Blowing Rock Blvd) in Lenoir, NC. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
