Zappa: Adopted! Pit Bull Terrier Mix Kansas City, KS

3/52016: Zappa is a super cute Pit Bull mix with some big crazy ears! He's very fun and friendly and just a goofy guy. He loves giving hugs and receiving belly rubs. He's playful and likes playing with toys. He also loves to go for walks and for car rides, and is a big fan of the fast food drive-thru! He’s pictured with his buddy, Bianca, who also enjoys running errands in the car and stopping for snacks. Zappa’s a pretty energetic guy. He’d love to have an active person to take him jogging or hiking or just for long walks. But he's also a good sleeper and napper once he's had some exercise!

Zappa was having anxiety issues and was put on medication to help him. It's made a big difference in lowering his anxiety. The medication is cheap and he takes it easily.

Zappa keeps his kennel very clean and we expect him to either be house trained or house train quickly. He hangs out in the office of one of our staff members most days and doesn’t chew things up when left alone. He loves curling up in a dog bed, and doesn’t complain if it’s a size too small! Zappa has completed beginner’s obedience classes and got an A. (Although he does think that laying down means that his elbows go on the ground and his butt goes up in the air. We mentioned that he’s goofy!)

Zappa is very choosy about his fellow canine friends. He generally prefers females who don’t want to be the boss of him.He may do best as an only pet. If you have a dog, we’d ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to see if they like each other. He does need a home without cats. He can also jump a fence, so either needs an active home without a fence, or a 6 ft or taller fence.

Zappa is 2 years old and weighs 50 lbs. He was a stray and came to us last spring. He had been attacked by a couple of bigger dogs and was beat up pretty badly with lots of wounds. He completely recovered. He’s also been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. He's a sweetie and lots of fun!

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
