Meet Zape! Zape’s mom was rescued as a pregnant stray and Zape was lucky enough to be born into our partner rescue in Mexico. Zape has waited over a year to make the trip to Canada in search of his forever home.

Zape’s foster describes him as a very sweet dog who enjoys pets and loves being around people. He always want to be close to his humans and will follow them around the house. He is shy at first but warms up quickly and then is very happy to be with you all the time. Zape loves cuddling and has shown some interest in chew toys but is still figuring everything out. Zape will give you very cute eyes before he invites himself in for pets.

Zape gets two walks a day for around 30 minutes, plus a few potty breaks. He is still figuring out the leash and will pull and zigzag but is working on this and is good at checking in with his person. He is a bit fearful but not reactive. His fosters make sure he has lots of space so he isn’t overwhelmed while he gets used to his surroundings. He has not been in high traffic areas and prefers to avoid these. He’s curious about other dogs on leash but so far hasn’t had close interactions.

Zape is crated when left alone and takes about 5-10 minutes to settle down. He may whine during this time but he does settle and will hang in the crate without issue. Zape sleeps in his crate through the night. Zape is working on basic obedience and his potty training is a work in progress.

Zape currently lives with another dog and is comfortable but not overly playful. He has always lived with other dogs and would do well in a family with another dog but could also be happy as a solo dog soaking up all the attention. He does seem to be more comfortable when left alone if the resident dog is home. He is good at reading her cues and if she doesn’t want to play he does not push it. Zape has not been tested with cats.

Zape is an adaptable guy and could do well in most environments. He would love a house and yard to explore but could live in a condo (he may occasionally whine when settling in his crate) as long as his exercise and socialization needs are met. He would do well with a second dog to hang out with or would love being the only dog and soaking up all the attention. Zape has not been tested with kids but is a gentle and shy guy who would likely do well with dog-savvy and respectful kids.
