Meet Zahra

Zahra's Story
-By Zahra, a 12-month-old, 72lb female Great Pyrenees.
--------------------------------------------
This was not how it was supposed to go. I was supposed to have so much. I was supposed to have a forever family. I was supposed to be someone's love. I was supposed to be the dog that no one ever gave up. I was just a puppy when I was originally adopted. I was so excited. My mama had told me stories of just how amazing a family could be. I was so ready. My life was going to be Pyrfect. I was going to have the best beds. I was going to have the best food. I was going to have the best family. For a while, I thought I had that. Everyone wanted a turn playing the fluffy polar bear cub. Everyone wanted to take pictures with me and love on me. As I grew though, I became "too much". I was always on them to play. I was always on them to interact with me. And when I got bored I got into things. I ended up being cast outside where I only grew more bored. Due to always being out in the heat, a nasty hotspot appeared on my back. I had nothing else to do, so would often mess with it. Before I knew it, it had turned into a big ole hole. I truly thought my family would help me with it. Instead, I found myself abandoned.

Suddenly, I was all on my own. My family was nowhere in sight and it was just me myself and I. I cannot remember exactly how that happened. I just know that it was horrible. How did I go from a puppy with stars in her eyes, to an adult who was always on guard, hungry, injured, and completely on her own? This was not how my life was supposed to go. To make matters worse, when I finally did come upon a person...it landed me in doggie jail. In a way, it was a good thing because upon entering the shelter, the staff quickly discovered that my hotspot had gotten so bad that I had maggots in it! They cleaned my wound out and started me on meds. The shelter was waiting for someone to reclaim me, but no one ever did. No one came for me. The problem with that is the shelter was already incredibly full. I heard whispers that my time was almost up. I thought once more to myself...how did this become my life? All I ever wanted was a family, and no I was at risk of leaving this world without ever truly having a family. At least the kind that would stand by me forever and ever.

My fate changed at the last minute though, in the most unexpected way. I had no idea what to think when some people came to get me and said I was leaving with a rescue. That was quite the surprise, but shortly after I met my foster mom. I immediately felt better, she was so nice. She took me home with her, and everything changed!

The first few days were a bit rough. It had been a long time(if ever) since I was in the house, and I did not know how I should act. Everything was so new and so different. And I was so excited to have a family again, that I was kind of on sensory overload. As the days went by, I started to settle into a nice routine though. I am now fully potty trained, and being kept on a good schedule has really helped me with that. At first, I wasn't happy being kenneled but have come around to it. Thankfully, my house manners have improved so much that I am now given free roam of the living room and kitchen when my foster family is away and I do great. At night, I usually sleep in the living room. I do bark, but then again that should not come as a surprise to you. ? However, I am not a huge barker. Usually, if I do start barking it is because the other dog started it. I am young so I will get into things if they are left out. If everything is put up, I am pretty good about sticking to my chew toys or bones.

Speaking of other dogs, I do well with them. I really love to play with other dogs, it is one of my favorite things. I am okay with cats, but it takes some time to warm up to them. When I first came into my foster home, I had no idea what a cat was and wanted to give chase. Now that I have settled in, I do fine with it. I am a playful girl though, so may occasionally still give chase if the cat runs. I do well with kids, but I am also a playful girl. I do think it would be better if the kids were 12+ in my new home. Sometimes I just don't understand my size. I love when visitors come over to the house. I am very friendly and quite excited. I love all the extra lovings they bring! ?

My foster brought me to PetSmart to pick out a new toy and I did very well! I was friendly to all the other people and animals that I met. I walk pretty well on a leash which helps a lot when you want to take me places with you. I do enjoy going for walks. I like that I get to explore, sniff, and meet new people when out on our walks. I have not been hiking yet, but I do think that I would love it. I know most Pyrs don't care for the game called fetch, but I enjoy it! I may not be a pro or anything, but I will definitely chase after the toy and bring it back! I do enjoy playing with toys, and find it is a good way to entertain myself when no one else can play with me. I have not had the chance to go swimming yet, so am unsure if I am a water dog or not.

I have come a long way. I am no longer the little naive fluffball. I have been through too much to be that pup anymore. However, I now know how much life can suck and just how amazing it can be! I am looking for a forever home this round. I did not have a say in my last home. I thought it would just be, I didn't know that some dogs don't always find their happily ever after. I now have my second chance and I don't plan on wasting it. I have played the role of an until girl before, now I want to be a forever girl!

If you are interested in offering me forever then please apply to adopt me at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Once you have submitted your application, it will be sent to my foster family for consideration.

I am being fostered in Owasso, OK. I do ask that my new family pick me up, none of that outside transport stuff. If I am going to move in with you, I expect to start our journey in the car together driving home TOGETHER.

My adoption fee is $250.00.
That will include my DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. I will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

EPILOGUE
-Below is an excerpt from Zahra's foster family.

"Zahra is such a sweet, funny, goofy, and smart girl! She is always very curious about what is going on and wants to be right there too. She is very smart! She learn how to sit and lay down in a matter of minutes. She is also VERY treat motivated. Ice cubes are also a favorite of hers. If she hears someone getting ice she will come and sit by the fridge waiting for an ice cube to drop or to be given one. She then runs off with it to eat and play with it.

Her personality is quite cute. When folding laundry she likes to try and sneak a sock or towel out of the pile and sneak off with it. She will readily give it up and we exchange what she has with one of her toys. We have given her a towel tied in a knot for her to take in place of the laundry she tries to steal and she seems to enjoy playing with that. She has been enjoying our evening walks with our other pup and does very well on them. She does still have bursts of puppy energy and gets the zoomies. When she gets overally excited, she can be a bit mouthy but we have been working with her on this and she has really come a long way! ♥

Taking extra walks and extra play time helps get her energy out and benefits her and her behavior. Zahra is the kind of dog who always wants to be involved in something and will always wear a smile while doing it! She loves to play fetch and will do it with her toys, soccer balls, and tennis balls as well. Once she gets her extra energy out she is the mellow, sweetest girl you've ever met! Zahra would benefit from continued training to keep improving her manners.

She loves to snuggle and really can not get close enough. She will lay on you if you let her. She has recently learned that she likes belly rubs. She has also started to do the "pyr paw" when she wants your attention or more pets."
