Yuca was rescued from a slaughterhouse in Jeju, where she was kept tied right in front of the area where dogs were slaughtered. Upon intake into the rescue, she turned out to be pregnant and had a litter of 5 puppies at her foster home. All but one of the puppies have been adopted, and Yuca is now looking for a forever home of her own!

Yuca is unsurprisingly a nervous dog, and takes a while to warm up to new people and places. She likely lacked socialization and exposure at critical times of her life while she was at the slaughterhouse, and does not yet have enough positive associations with humans to override her past experiences. The rescue worked with a trainer to help her acclimate to life around humans, but although she has improved dramatically she will still freeze or shy away from new people approaching her.

If you let her approach and engage on her own terms, Yuca is an easy going dog that is easily bribed with food (her favorite snacks are bread and ice cream). Her foster lets her drag a leash indoors so it’s easier to direct, but she would benefit from some counter conditioning to make leashing and putting on gear a less stressful process. Yuca can be a flight risk, so her future family will need to ensure she is securely leashed outdoors and never unsupervised outside.

Yuca is good with other dogs and cats, and is totally housebroken. She may need a little more leash training, but she loves walks outdoors. Her ideal family is one that understands the responsibility of owning and training a fearful dog. GPS collar and additional gear will be required for adoption.
