Yongyi Terrier Mix Long Island City, NY

Yongyi is estimated to be about 3.5 years old, and he is a Sapsali mix (Korean Terrier breed) that we rescued out of Aerinwon shelter.
This was an infamous private shelter where hundreds of dogs were placed at outdoor kennels without proper food and vetting, and so many of them suffered and had to endured hardship to survive. For many years, a lot of animal activists fought together to have Aerinwon shut down, and finally they were able to do so two years ago. However, hundreds of animals still remain at make-shift outdoor shelters after their original deteriorating building was demolished for safety. Most of these dogs are all waiting to be adopted by families in Korea, but chances for that to happen are very slim, especially for mix breed dogs like Yongyi due to most Korean favoring a small non-shedding pure bred dogs.

We heard that Yongyi was a little shy, when he came to our Korean K9 Rescue Center in Korea to be quarantined and observed. He was a little skittish and scared. It was probably his first time being out of Aerinwon shelter, and all the new smell and environment were something he was not familiar with. We noticed that he is little awkward at going for a walk too, and assume that he probably has not had much walking or running either in his life. However, in a few days worth of time, we could already see a progress in his personality. He was more curious about people, other dogs' interaction with people, and slowly coming around our trainers to get the attention. He is a quiet observer, and if he can meet a family who can be patient with him, and give him just a few weeks to open himself and get acquainted, then we feel that it will lead him to become a beautiful companion to someone/ people for the rest of the life. We did notice that he is on the skinny side, and need to put on some weight by eating healthy food. The daily walking exercise will not only help Yongyi to gain muscles, but will be a precious bond building time between the adopter and Yongyi. We would love to find him a family who will surround him with lots of love from now on and also provide him a forever safe home. Since her arrival in the US, Leo's foster family informed us that Leo is so sweet, friendly and loving dog, and she does well with everyone including men and children. Yongyi has been neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and he is ready for the forever home!

We believe people who adopt rescue animals because they are willing to accept a bit of imperfection, and willing to embrace, work/ train and love them no matter what baggage the animal had in the past. It can be challenging, but extremely rewarding. We have seen an amazing transformation in our adopted dogs, and it is our goal to provide all of them with the same opportunity. We are at our happiest when we see photos of our adopted animals smile with their new adoptive family, and we hope to find Yongyi a loving family who would do the same.
