Xander is from Clarksville, Iowa and was born in November 20`13. He was purchased from a breeder when he was a puppy. The kids in his home have grown up and moved out, and the adult in the home in moving out of state. No one wants to keep Xander so he is now a Waverly Pet Rescue dog and living in a foster home. Xander now is up to date on shots, tested heartworm negative, and neutered.

Xander is about 9-1/2 years old as of May 2023. Xander has never been a vet with his previous owner. We had him fully vetted and he also had a urinary tract infection he is getting treated for.

Xander is very loving. Has never bit anyone. He is very loyal to his family and likes to alert them if there are visitors at the door, or if anyone makes any funny moves, like playing around, rough housing, he will come check on what's going on. He wants to make sure his owner/family is ok. Basically, by standing close to his person/owner and barking. He is good with other dogs and loves children. He is paper trained and not housetrained. His owner did not train him to use the outside as his bathroom, so he learned to go on papers in the house. His foster mom and dad are training working on housetraining with him and he will need continued training and patience in a new a home.

Xander has been a loyal family member for almost 10 years. Losing the only home he has ever known is heart wrenching to think about. Let's find Xander a home that will love, pamper, and cherish him for the rest of his life like he deserves!

6/29/23 UPDATE: After the vey found and treated that UTI, he has no indoor issues really at all with housetraining. There was one time he went in the house after but he has a horrible poker face in that he kicks so crazy with his hind legs he gives it away, but that was one time and it was a little teeny tiny poo in the bathroom.

He likes to jet out of an open door and run around the neighborhood, but too has gotten better about not getting as far away and comes back quicker too when told to. A fenced in yard might be a great idea to keep Xander safe.

He is slightly food protective with our dogs but nothing serious, just little growls, but he was an only dog for so long it makes sense.

He is great happy little boy, LOVES to run around and wrestle with our other dogs but also loves to cuddle up next to either of us in the couch as well.

Will someone please adopt Xander and give him a forever home? $175.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
