Meet Xander
Xander (like Zander) is a lab mix. He is about 2-3 yrs old and weighs 55 lbs.
Xander first came to WAG in August of 2021 after 4 months at Levy County Animal Shelter, which was probably very hard for a young dog. He was just over a year old at the time and quite the adolescent. He was feisty and energetic and was eventually adopted early in January 2022. He was then returned in May of 2022 due to being overly protective of his home from strangers. Xander has gone through some extensive training about his stranger fear issues and is doing much better. His trainer will be available for questions if Xander is chosen for adoption.
Now, why I love Xander! Xander is a sweetheart. He is good with other dogs and plays well with most all he meets. We had 3 young puppies come in recently and he played with them all so sweet and gently. He is also fine with cats. He loves attention and absolutely loves to play fetch. He also loves cuddles. He has always enjoyed playing and learning new things and seems quite food motivated for training. He is just a very even tempered, mature boy now. We believe that Xander will be a great companion for someone if they can give him another chance. Xander has had a very fragmented and sad life, being constantly moved around and living in kennels. He has gotten more anxious when out in public and in loud places as he has spent so much time in kennels. He is a great dog that needs someone to love him and give him a second chance. He would do well in a home where he could have dogs or people to play with and interact with. He is such a good boy and his life has not been fair.
All dogs are eligible to be fostered for up to 30 days before adoption in order to see if the match is a good one. WAG covers any medical costs during the foster period. Once the match is thought to be a good, the adoption moves forward.
If you have questions about fostering or are interested in meeting Xander or any of his friends at WAG, please call us at 352-528-9888 to make an appointment to meet them.
