Meet Willow

This is Willow. Willow was born in our rescue in early 2010 and adopted out a few months later. Since then, she apparently changed hands a few times from the person who originally adopted from us, first due to a divorce and then due to the person who had her dying. She ended up with a family member who took her out of state and didn’t love her like she deserved, and when the one person who was caring for her was no longer in the picture, she was very neglected - she was only 54 pounds when we got her back but she is doing beautifully now - up to about 75 pounds! Best guess on breed mix is mastiff/shepherd. She was found in this emaciated condition by the caring person who went back to get her and the other pets out of the home. Willow was covered in cooking grease, apparently from scavenging for food and knocking over a deep fryer. That nice person brought Willow back to Ohio and reached out to another caring family member who helped contact Recycled Doggies to get her back to us. While we are so grateful to those who did love Willow and helped get her back to us this week, we are so sad, devastated really, that this sweet beautiful dog’s life ended up like this. We make a lifelong commitment to our dogs and will always take them back - we wish we had been able to intervene and get Willow back sooner so she didn’t have to suffer and starve. Willow is now safe with us and in a loving foster home. We are told that Willow is fine with cats and other dogs. She supposedly lived with a small child previously but small children definitely make her nervous now so we are looking for a home without small children for her. Willow just turned 9 years old in January 2019. Willow has a bit of stranger danger when meeting new people - especially men seem to make her nervous as she figures out if she can trust them She will need someone patient to help her relax and adjust to all the changes she has been through. She is very sweet and loving and thinks she is a lap doggy! She's also a very beautiful girl and way more spunky than you might expect for a large breed 9 year old dog! NOTE: DESPITE BEING 9 YEARS OLD, WILLOW IS QUITE SPRY AND SHE CAN AND WILL JUMP A 4 FT FENCE TO CHASE DEER. SHE NEEDS A 6 FT FENCE OR TO BE WALKED. SHE CANNOT SAFELY BE LEFT OUTSIDE IN A YARD WITH A REGULAR 4 FT FENCE UNATTENDED. If you are interested in adopting from Recycled Doggies, please complete an adoption application through our website: www.recycleddoggies.org. THAT IS THE FIRST STEP IN OUR PROCESS. Please do not just show up at an adoption event and expect to adopt a dog that day - we need time to review your application ahead of time, which is why we ask that you submit your application ahead of time so you don't miss out on the dog you are hoping to adopt while you wait for your application to be reviewed. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested (if over 9 months of age), and microchipped. We do not adopt outside our area, which we define as two hours drive time from downtown Cincinnati (zip code 45202 - use Google Maps to determine if you are within our area) NO EXCEPTIONS. This is for the safety of our dogs, so that in case an adoption does not work out, we can be sure that we can quickly get our dog back. We do not have a shelter or facility - all of our dogs live in volunteer foster homes. In order to not infringe on any more of the time of our foster families, we introduce our dogs to potential adopters at our weekend adoption events posted on our website - please do not request to meet the dog outside of an adoption event as we are unable to grant the request. If you have additional questions, please email recycleddoggies@gmail.com.
