Willie's Story

Willie is a 6-year, 10-month-old chocolate dapple dachshund. He is gentle, sweet, and a little chunky. He probably needs to lose about 3 pounds to be healthy.

He has a minor heart murmur on the left side of his heart, like many small dogs, and it doesn't require medication. He has some creaky knees when the vet manipulated them, so we put him on a joint supplement and fresh food to continue his weight loss journey.

Willie lost 20 teeth at his dental, and his cherry eye was also repaired.

He does have separation anxiety, and that is shown as he may mark when left alone. However, he is pretty good when you let him out regularly and he is not left alone.

He does like kids that are gentle, other small dogs, but we don't know how he is with cats. He takes time to warm up to larger dogs, but will eventually.

To be considered for Willie, please apply on our website:

https://www.portlanddachshundrescue.org/adoptionform

Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
OUR CRITERIA There's nothing better than a successful match. We like to explain the process of finding the right rescue dog as being similar to online dating: You will want to check our site often to see who is new, read each bio and reach out if you think they might have found someone special. Our adoption team is highly skilled at helping you find a dog with the right personality that will fit your family and lifestyle. Occasionally, we receive multiple promising applications for a dog and ultimately match the dog with the home where we think they will do best. We are committed to helping you find a dog even if you don't "match" on your first attempt. We would love nothing more than to help you find the forever dog of your dreams. Although we like to tailor each match, we do have some basic criteria we look with respect to adoptive homes: *Homes should be non-smoking *Have a securely fenced yard *Ability to commit to yearly dentals and shots for the pet *Willingness to purchase ramps and pet stairs to safeguard the dog's back
