Willie's Story
Hi, my name is Willie! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Independent, well-mannered, vocal, playful, observant, good boy
-Can Live with Kids: Willie is sensitive to handling and will need a home with kids ages 16+. Up to counselor's discretion.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - will need proper introductions to ensure everyone gets along
-Can Live with Dogs: Willie is an independent guy who can be selective about his dog friends. He could potentially live with another independent dog of similar energy level/playstyle, but seems like he might be happiest as an "only child."
-Can do Apartment Living: Preferably not, Willie loves to tell you how he feels and can be a bit vocal. He would do best in a home with no shared walls. Up to counselor's discretion.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, one private lesson (mainly due to breed)
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Microchip
-Additional Information: Willie is a well-mannered senior boy looking for a spot to retire. He was brought to WHS as a stray about a month ago and sadly no owner came to claim him. It is obvious that Willie was loved in his previous home. He knows lots of commands including: sit, down, stay, shake, and SPIN! He is very focused on his owner and responds immediately to these commands, especially when treats are involved. Willie can be a little picky when it comes to affection. He is not a fan of being touched/petted on his head and WILL NEED A DOG-EXPERIENCED PERSON who is able and willing to respect his boundaries. Willie's perfect home is nice and quiet with one or two adults. We think he is going to bond strongly to his person, so a home where he's not left alone long hours would be idea. He would be a wonderful match for a retired person/couple looking for a calm but quirky companion! It does seem that Willie has some food sensitivity (which manifests itself as itchy/flaky skin) and will need to be on a limited-ingredient diet to keep him feeling and looking his best. As a senior boy, Willie will need more frequent vet checkups to ensure he's happy and healthy - adopters will need to be able and willing to provide him with this essential care.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
