Waylon is around 1.5yrs old. He was found as a stray in upstate NY. His captor tried for 2 months to get him, but he is VERY smart and didn't fall for anything until the day came we had a volunteer capture him in an enclosure. He was out in -40° Temps. But February 13th, we got him at one in the morning. He went from totally feral and distant, to loving and relaxed. It took about a week for him to come out of his shell. His rescuer spent a lot of time with him: taught him crates aren't bad and how to eat kibble again. He walks ok on a leash, but if something scares him, he will dart. He respects a fence and hasn't ever tried jumping one or digging under. He does NOT do well with other dogs, which is understandable, as he was loose for quite a while. Cats are undecided.
He received the name Waylon, from Waylon Jennings and the Highway Men, since he was a stray. He does protect his home at all costs. When he learns to trust you, he loves you with his whole heart. He is food driven. We are still working on showing him car rides won't hurt him. He gets lots of pets, praise and cookies when he jumps inside. He learned cars are bad from being loose. His best situation would be a fenced back yard with an adult and mid/late teen family because when he plays, he's very expressive with his paws.
He's a severe love bug if you are his human. Waylon is now neutered, microchipped, heartworm, lyme negative tested and given appropriate vaccines. He just wants a couch and a backyard to run and play. Oh, tennis balls, he LOVES tennis balls.
