Waylon! American Staffordshire Terrier Mix Leon, KS

This boy is one of Hickory Hollow’s longest residents, going on a whole year in the shelter. Waylon was found running along country roads by a good samaritan who eventually called us to come get him! After searching for his owners, staff quickly realized that Waylon was most likely dumped in the countryside with nowhere to call home.

Waylon is an American Pitbull mix, and weighs around 60-70 pounds. He is about 3-4 years old, so he most likely will not grow much more. Waylon is up to date on shots, neutered, and house trained. Waylon loves to play with his ball and he really loves human interaction in general. He is a VERY loyal boy, and when he trusts someone, he doesn’t need a leash all of the time!

Coming into the shelter has affected Waylon negatively the most we have seen out of any of our dogs. While he is still a happy boy, he does struggle with some anxiety being around so many dogs, but having to be separated from everyone most of the time. This is nothing that a bit of time and training can’t help with! Waylon is able to calm down & really warm up to our staff when he is away from all of the usual noises you find in a shelter, he’s actually a completely different dog!

Waylon would do amazing in a home with no cats. Because of the effects the shelter has had on Waylon, he occasionally barks at other dogs through the fence - so he does have the potential to live with other dogs, but he would need to warm up first. Waylon would do well in a home with children!
