Meet Walton

Walton is a big lovebug that's just waiting for his soulmate! He can be a bit shy in new places, but with a bit of patience, he just wants to be your best friend. His finder had him around older kids and dogs and he did okay, but may need some more time to warm up to other dogs. Give this big guy a chance!

He is a Priority Paws dog due to his dog reactivity in the shelter environment.

His foster says " Walton is a great dog who just wants love! He doesn't know many tricks but he is a smart dog who listens very well and has never tried to get into anything he isn't suppose to. He is super chill and loves his naps. He loves being involved in whatever your doing and can be a cuddle bug. He does very well walking on a leash and rarely will pull. Overall, Walton is a pretty low maintenance friendly dog."

Another foster says "* Calm in car, sat like the good boy he is the whole time
* Got in the car all by himself
* Food/treat-motivated
* Learning his name decently
* Knows sit
* Learning lay down
* Loves to snuggle
* Cuddliest dog I've ever met
* Good couch potato
* Likes to be your shadow
* I work from home and he just sat by me all day & let me give him pets all day
* Would love to go everywhere possible with you
* If you're looking for a best friend to do everything with you, that is Walton
* Took treats gently/sweetly out of hand
* Went potty immediately when outside (after playing in snow of course)
* Seemed to like playing in the snow
* Good about drinking water
* Very loyal
* Smiles super cute
* Loves enrichment toys like kongs to get treats out of
* Slowly introduced to cats
* At first sight, (from a distance and on a leash) he got a little too excited and seemed like he maybe thought it was a toy; no growling, snarling, ears back, hair spiked, or anything like that. Simply just seemed too excited for his size compared to a cat
* At second sight (he saw one of my cats again) he did very well and seemed very interested in playing. If my kitten weren't scared I'd allow them to play further but she was not having it. Walton loved to give kisses to my cats tho.
* At third sight, I learned it was my cat who was not okay with it, but Walton was perfectly fine and happy to meet a new kitty friend.
* This makes me think he'd do okay with a well matched dog at a similar size and temperament
* Actually seemed very sad and upset he couldn't play with cats
* At fourth sight, he was in the kennel and growled at a cat I was petting, very loyal towards his human
* Does fine in the kennel, just wines at first for a bit. I believe some training would probably be good for him. As he's very treat motivated, I don't think this would be very difficult"

Volunteers say "Walton is an absolute sweetheart. He was incredibly calm in the car and does great on walks. He loved to do whatever I was doing but he is a big cuddler and forsure thinks he's a lap dog. He was happy to hang out with whoever and was excited to meet all the new people at Starbucks. He would be great in many homes with many lifestyles because he equally likes to chill on the couch or go on walks. He likes to be very close to his person at all times so he would make a great best friend."

"He was excellent on the leash, didn't pull me at all and was very easy to redirect if he started to stray one way or another :) He was on edge and stopped in his tracks when he saw 1) a permit driver and his instructor in a red vehicle 2) an unknown man who got out of his car in the CMHS parking lot. He did come over to me once I knelt down and called him, but he was much harder to redirect at those moments. I'm not sure if he's wary of men or vehicles, but something to possibly explore further? He was a bit too nervous to accept treats when we took a break during the walk, and all he really wanted to do was give some gentle kisses and get his big head kissed. Such a wonderful, sweet dog and so easy to fall in love with!!! Whoever adopts him will be incredibly lucky."

"We went to my house and played fetch for a little bit, tried to teach him a few tricks, then watched tv for about an hour. He was very calm and seemed to be tired, but was very sweet. I think he would be perfect for a family with kids or just a couple that is looking for a calm dog. I think someone that could give him a lot of attention would be nice as well since he loves to cuddle!"

"Walton was such a good dog. He was very excited and jumpy initially but once he calmed down a bit his leash skills were PHENOMENAL. He walked right by my side the whole time no tugging at all and took treats very gently. He's such a sweet boy and any person would be so lucky to have him."
