Baker will do best in a home with active adults who know the Brittany breed and either work from home or are retired. He does get anxious when his people are not around. He would also do best in a home with another non-dominant dog to play with. Baker has a high prey drive and will not be placed in a home with cats, chickens, or rabbits.
Baker has a brachial plexus injury which damaged the nerves that control his left front foreleg. He is able to put weight on his leg for walking and walks with a limp. He runs just fine on 3 legs as he can't put weight on the leg when he runs. Baker takes oral medication for this injury. His foster mom also does massage and certain daily exercises on the injured leg to keep it functioning optimally. Any adopter should expect to continue with this conditioning.
Baker needs a home with a yard with a secure 6-foot tall fence. Baker doesn't know that his left front foreleg doesn't work correctly, therefore it doesn't affect his jumping or running. He can jump 4' high and runs faster than the other dogs he plays with.
Baker is neutered, current on his vaccinations, heartworm neg, and microchipped. He enjoys his time with the groomer and having his toenails done.
Baker knows basic commands: sit, stay, lay down, and floor. If his foster mom is sitting and Baker puts a foot on her, she tells him floor and he puts his paw back on the floor. His foster mom is working on heel as he pulls when walking on the leash.
His adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in making Baker a member of your family, please visit www.nbran.org and complete the on-line application found under the Adopt tab. Once the application has been completed, you will be contacted by your state coordinator. A phone interview, home visit, and vet check will be required as part of the approval process. Please realize that all our dogs are placed in the most appropriate home for their individual needs. We do not operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Baker is eligible for our canine railroad and can be transported up to 1400 miles from WA with the last leg (100 miles) being driver by the adopter.
